Good afternoon,

A great week of sports.  Hockey playoffs continue with the conference semi-finals.  How seriously is Crosby hurt?  Will he return at all this season?

NFL draft is done.  You gotta love Drew Pearson's intro.  Loved the responses from other teams.  It made the draft seem less corporate.   Basketball has also gotten to the conference semi-finals.  Unlike hockey, no big upsets in basketball.  Seems there is more parity in hockey than basketball.

Who saw Ryan Zimmerman leading the NL in the triple crown categories at the end of April? Colorado and Arizona contending for the NL West lead with San Francisco at  the bottom.  I'm sure some had a Yankee rookie with 10 home runs.  But was it Judge not Sanchez? Keuchel has five wins.  Predictions for season totals?  Over under 15.5?  Is this the year of turnover in the AL?  Cleveland is only 2016 division winner leading its division this year.  Who do you have in this Saturday's race?

We have added ten more  king rooms  for the convention.  If when you register you are told that no more rooms are available at the APBA rate, send an email to [email protected].  We will work with the hotel to get more rooms.

Since we have converted all the baseball sets to master game sets, we will no longer be offering the master game symbols as of June 1st.

Here is the link to register for the 2017 Convention. First time attendees make sure to choose the right registration.

FOOTBALL CONVENTION TOURNAMENT
We are now accepting coaches for our 2017 Football Tournament.  Because of the unique nature of the football game and the length of time it takes to complete a contest (roughly 3 hours), we need to limit our participation to eight teams.  You can pick any team from 2010 or later (including 2016) and we will be using the Basic game.  If however, both coaches agree to play the Master version then they can do so for that specific contest.  But, unless both coaches agree, the Basic game will be used.
The first round games will start on Thursday - hopefully in the morning - with the second round games being played Thursday afternoon or evening.  The championship game will be played on Friday afternoon.
If you would like to participate, and you are arriving in Alpharetta early enough to do so, please let us know which team you will be using.  We will seed the teams once we have all eight slots filled.

APBA GO PAGL
Subject: A's Take Inaugural PAGL World Series 4 games to 2
The A's won games 5 and 6 to close out the first ever PAGL World Series.  Game 5 was a back-and-forth affair that went into the 9th tied at 4.  Mickey Cochrane ended the game in the bottom of the 9th with a walk-off two-run HR off Aroldis Chapman.  Jing Johnson was on the mound in relief and notched the victory.

The final in Game 6 was 4-2.  Jimmie Foxx went 3-4 with a run scored and an RBI.  Ty Cobb had 2 RBI and 2 SB.  Jack Quinn earned the win, and Jon Lester took the loss.

Well done guys.

APBA GO 42 LEAGUE
Note: this will be very interesting league as we will be playing an schedule where some teams will be playing 3 game series at the same time that other teams are playing 4 gamers.  10 of the 18 teams won more than 100 games and it would have been 11 if the Expos (94) didn't play in a strike shortened season.  Bear with me as I try to manage this schedule as well as try to keep track of home and away advantage so as to keep a level playing field.

OTHER CONVENTION ACTIVITIES
If you are planning to attend the 2017 Convention, the Braves will be home that entire week.  Hosting SF Monday through Thursday and then the Brewers for the weekend.   All of the SF games are night games.  The new Suntrust Field is much closer to the hotel than Turner Field is.  For soccer fans,  Atlanta United will be hosting Colorado, Saturday night at 7 pm at Bobby Dodd stadium.

TOURNAMENT NEWS
Well as promised I told you last week that I would report on my own 2016 APBA Baseball Tournament final series which I played in Florida poolside at the Courtyard by Marriott Orlando Lake Buena Vista at Vista Centre. The series pitted the National Representative Chicago Cubs (Seed #1 with a 11-5 record) against the American League Representative Boston Red Sox (Seed #3 with a 14-2 record). The series went back and forth but eventually went to a 7th game which Boston won 9-5. The series MVP was Rick Porcello who went 3-0 with 23 innings pitched, a 1.56 ERA, and 29 strikeouts. The Cubbies are going to have to wait for 2017. My semi-annual poolside gaming is my most enjoyable form of solitary play.

WHY WE PLAY APBA
From long time APBA fan, Richard Hormel
" My baby brother's birthday was today. He turned 52 which is depressing.
The game and cards showed up Saturday and his wife and kids held them back until his actual birthday today.

I've got two younger brothers who both played APBA. My youngest brother, Quentin, was always more into it and I used to get him the card set each year for his birthday. This custom fell by the wayside years back but I hope to bring this custom back in the years to come.

I called him tonight and we must have talked for two hours about the game and card set. I brought him up to date with the various changes. We are both huge Yankee fans so we had to analyze those cards.

The whole conversation was so much fun and it sounds like he is going to play a few game this week and see if he can interest his two daughters in playing( the older one plays high school softball and is- once again- a huge Yankee fan so we'll see what happens!)."
