JACKSON COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, JACKSON, MI
Eileen Lehnert, 2012 ATHENA Recipient, retired from the Jackson Citizen Patriot after serving as editor for 10 years and working at the newspaper for more than 24 years. Since retiring, she has volunteered for Family Services and Children's Aid of Jackson County, St. Luke's, the Jackson Legacy Program, Kiwanis and more. She is her church's liaison with Habitat's Women's Build and when the Girl Scouts of America combined councils nationwide, she joined the first board of the Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan. Her advice is simple: "Give to your community by working on what you're passionate about. Don't worry about time constraints - Take on a one-time, one-day activity or find a way to give one hour a week and build from there. You will meet wonderful people and the return on your time will be better than any investment you will ever make!"
