Sermon
"The Family We Choose "

Scripture
Matthew 12:46-50

As we come together on 4th of July weekend and celebrate the country's birthday, we continue to explore the whole idea of family.  Once again this Sunday, Vince Fratello will be bringing the message.  We find family is a variety of places, whether it is the family of Aldersgate, the Wednesday Study group that feel much like family, Roger talks of the praise band as the first family (first service).  As I said we find family in a variety of places and Vince will be exploring exactly what that means on Sunday.  At the same time, we need to know who we are, where and how we fit, what we believe and become responsible for how we act, not matter the family or families around us.  Jesus knew exactly who he was, found family in a variety of places and continually taught in ways that would allow others to become a part of his.  As United Methodists we have defining elements that set us aside particularly as we focus on acts of piety that help us define our acts of charity.  So, where do you find family?  Where or how do you fit into it, or not?  Well, friends, our ministries represent this family, the family we call Aldersgate, and all are welcome to become a part of it.  Vince will explore all of that this Sunday.  To prepare please read Matthew 12: 46 - 50.

First Service Time Change
July 10 - 9:00am
Please note, starting on Sunday July 10 and continuing through August 28, the first service start time will change to 9:00am on a trial basis.  This summer we will decide if it is something we will continue through the Fall with our full program schedule.

ONE Service & Church Picnic
Sunday July 31, 10:00am
On Sunday, July 31 there will be only one service at 10:00am when we will worship together as one body in Christ Jesus.  Following the service, please join us for the annual church picnic.  Please bring a salad or side dish to share with 10-12 people.  The main dish and drinks will be provided.  Also bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.

Pastor's Whereabouts
This week Pastor Brad is the camp pastor at Camp Twinlow and then  on vacation.  Church member Vince Fratello will be leading worship and preaching this Sunday, July 3.  Pastor Brad will be back in the pulpit on July 10.

Summer Giving
We thank you for your financial support and remind you that summers are usually our leanest months because many of you will be gone on vacation.  We encourage everyone to catch up on their donation pledges. If you have not already done so, please consider signing up for automatic, recurring, electronic giving.  It's fast, it's simple, and it really helps us keep the lights on and programs going during the summer months. For more information, go to the giving page of the church website (aldersgate-church.org/giving/).   For those members in town for part or all of the summer, click here to check out our website  calendar page for summer events !  Blessings to you and your family. - Finance Team

VBS Workshops
July 7, July 14
There will be workshops held on the following days to help prepare decorations and crafts for Vacation Bible School on July 7 and July 14 from 6 - 8pm. Please come when you can and help us get ready for the most fun week of the year!

Kid's Club Volunteers
Please CLICK HERE to sign up to host a Kid's Club this summer. It is easy and fun and a great way to serve the church. Kid's Club is a fellowship time for kids during the first worship service. There are typically between 4-15 kids present that range from 3 years old to tween age. Share a part of your story and your passions with the kids - they love getting to know members of their Aldersgate Family.  Play games or do an art project with them.  Talk with Jen Hoerber about ideas that could work or to find someone to host with you!

Jars Needed
We need plastic jars with lids for a Vacation Bible School project.  We need  pint or quart size, such as a mayonnaise jar or a peanut butter jar. Leave them in the bag by Linda Detering's mailbox or give them to Jen Hoerber.   Thank you.

Outreach & Missions World

Sophia Way Thank You
A Sophia Way client has written a thank you note to everyone who supports the Sophia Way organization which helps single women to transition from homelessness to stable independent living.    Click Here to read her reflections and learn more about Sophia Way.  The people of Aldersgate help support this organization with  donations of funds, food and time.

Crossroads Feeding Program Needs YOU!
Summer is upon us and there are opportunities to serve those in need. The Crossroads Feeding Program is looking for volunteers to serve and donate food in June, July, August and September. We ask that servers be at least 10 years of age though younger kids can still help. Please check your calendars and click here  to sign-up or feel free to email Melinda Lilley  directly to find out specific needs.

Missionary Visits from Nepal
Katherine Parker, an Aldersgate supported missionary to Nepal, joined  17 of us Wednesday for a lunch and reception.  She is with the General Board of Global Ministries serving as part of the health team to the United Mission to Nepal (UMN). Dressed in traditional Napli costume, she shared about her work there and the culture of that country.  We learned how she, as part of the UMN, provided assistance following the recent devastating earthquake.  Also, of particular interest to many in the audience was her explanation of how she teaches reproductive health and hygiene to adolescents in a country with many taboos about the subject.  If you missed this opportunity to hear Katherine, plan to attend her next visit with us.  Unfortunately, you'll have to wait until 2019, but you can follow her now on  http://bokashi.blogspot.com  or  https://www.facebook.com/bokashi .

Thanks form C4H
Thank you to everyone who donated food or prepared and served dinner to the men in the Congregations for the Homeless shelter at Christ the King Lutheran Church.  Your time and donations make a huge difference in the lives of these men.  Congregations for the Homeless is a stepping stone to breaking the cycle of homelessness.  Their program is comprehensive.  If you would like to learn more about this organization, check out their website: http://www.cfhomeless.org/.   Thank you again for caring and supporting this program
