Sermon
"Gifts of Love "

Scripture Lesson
John 11:33-36

This Sunday
This Sunday we're celebrating gifts. The word alone can mean so many things.  Gifts come in a wide array of colors and types.  They can be something that we have inside us that needs to be shared.  They can be something that we offer to others.  They can be surprises or they can be...well...gifts.  We find them under the tree and Christmas and on our birthdays.  We find them in the talents that are shared, like last weekend at Lazy F and here at the worship service at Aldersgate.  We find them being shared by so many in this congregation, and this Sunday we'll celebrate a bunch of them.  Jesus brought innumerable gifts to those around him.  He shared fully of himself in every way and at every level.  It's why the shortest verse in scripture may also be the most powerful.  Jesus shared not only healing gifts, teaching gifts, but also emotional gifts.  It goes with the territory of sharing gifts.  So to prepare for this Sunday please turn to the Gospel of John, chapter 11: 33 - 36.

Pastor's Discretionary Fund
Friends, the requests keep coming in and the needs are great. The Pastor's Discretionary Fund is not only depleted but now running in a deficit.  If you feel called to continue to support this ministry at Aldersgate, please add a bit to the offering plate  on Sunday .  Even if it's a small amount, everything helps.  Through this fund we're feeding the hungry, clothing those in need, and offering hope to those who are currently without it.  Every cent of this fund goes to help the most desperate of those living around us.  Thanks for prayerfully considering the Pastor's Discretionary Fund with help.  Thank You!
Peace with Justice Sunday
June 18
Peace with Justice Sunday is June 18 and we will take a special offering to help support the Peace with Justice ministries in our church conference.  Gifts on Peace with Justice Sunday fund grants to United Methodist ministries and programs that work for peace, love and compassion for God's children in the United States and around the world.  These programs empower United Methodists to speak out for removing structures and systems that harm God's children globally.  When you give, you encourage people to live - not just preach - a gospel of peace.  Please give generously.
Called to Dismantle Racism:  Practical Pathways
to Mobilize Faith Communities for Racial Justice
Saturday, June 10
The Church Council of Greater Seattle is holding a workshop on Saturday, June 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at University Congregational Church, 4515 16th Avenue in Seattle. The training is designed especially for congregations who have begun to embrace the pathway toward racial justice within their own congregations.  The training will strengthen connections between area congregations committed to moving forward on racial justice work by providing some foundational and logistical pathways their communities can utilize for change. The training will underscore the moral imperative of understanding racism in our congregations and broader communities to effectively partner with others to dismantle it.
Ideally, a team of 2-4 people from the congregation would attend together to carpool and share resources.  The cost is $25 for an individual and $75 for a team up to 4 people.  Snacks and beverages will be provided.  Please bring your own lunch.  RSVPs by Wednesday, June 7, should be sent to Ann Erickson at aerickson@thechurchcouncil.org
