Scripture Lesson : 1 Samuel 2:8
Sermon:  "Mid-Course Reversals""

This Sunday
This Sunday we'll trace the workings of the Holy Spirit through the millennia, always bringing a reason to believe in the power of God to bring renewal when it's most needed. The symbol of the peacock's tail will be our guide as the peacock's tail feathers are regenerated again each year. Prepare this week by reading Hannah's song in 1 Samuel 2:1-10. It is a song of rebirth, of renewal, even reversals that bring hope to the people of God. On Sunday, we have many ways that we will be celebrating rebirth among us with new members joining, communion, a UMW award, blessing of dresses heading out as part of the Days for Girls project, and honoring our graduates. It's a rebirth kind of season. We will prepare to let go of what has been and look ahead to what the Spirit is inviting in the future.
MINISTRY NEWS
New Members
On Sunday seven people will join Aldersgate as new members. At the first service we welcome Patrick Eames and Steve Briggs. At the second service we welcome Pam Johnson, Butch and Sue Black, and Peter Coffee and Carolyn Major. All have been attending regularly and are actively involved with the church. Please give them a warm welcome.
ACP Cookie Donations
Aldersgate Christian Preschool will have its Spring Program on Wednesday and Thursday, June 6 & 7.  Anyone interested in donating cookies for the reception, can drop them off in the church kitchen or preschool office marked "ACP" beginning Sunday, June 3 through Tuesday, June 5.  Thank you!
Electronic Giving
Many of you will be going on vacation or visiting family during these upcoming summer months. To keep up to date on your tithe, please consider signing up for automatic recurring electronic giving via the church website at aldersgate-church.org/giving/.   It's fast, it's simple, and it really helps us keep the lights on and programs going during the summer months. Enjoy your trips and we look forward to seeing you when you return!
Stewardship Pledge Card
Thank you to those that have submitted their pledge card. If you have not had a chance to turn in yours yet, please do so by this  Sunday. We ask that you prayerfully consider submitting your pledge so the Finance Team can prepare a budget that supports our staff in their guidance of fulfilling our mission. We hope all those who call Aldersgate their church home will give so that we can fully fund all our ministries, grow in service to others and continue to be a place where love overflows.  Please  CLICK HERE  for the pledge card and either mail it or bring it to church at your earliest convenience.
CRC Table Talk Cancelled
There will not be a CRC Table Talk on June 9 as planned.   More information will be forthcoming.
Common Table ~ Monday June 18
The next Aldersgate Common Table will be on Monday, June 18 and it starts at 7:00pm in Friendship Hall. Come early for dinner at 6:30pm. This gathering is for everyone who wants to stay informed about church business and have a voice in the life of the church. On the agenda is Sabbatical Overview (Pastor Brad), Church Budget (Melinda Lilley) and NAMI (Pastor Laura). Free childcare is available with advance notice.  Please sign up on Sunday's attendance form or contact the church office if you plan to come to dinner or need childcare.
NO "Stop the Bleed" Class
We are sorry that we cannot have a "Stop the Bleed" class at this time.  No instructor is available, and they are all volunteers.  We will try again to organize a class in the fall.  Thanks to all of you for your interest and we hope to have more success scheduling a class later.
Anaheim Youth Group Overnight
The youth group from Anaheim UMC is coming for an overnight stay June 30 on their way to a service project in Spokane. They will arrive at Aldersgate Saturday and leave Sunday before worship. Anyone interested in providing food for a dinner and/or a breakfast for the youth and their chaperones please sign up on Sunday's attendance form or contact Pastor Laura.
Confirmation Corner
We have six youth participating in Confirmation classes this year. Their prayer quilts are hanging in the narthex and will remain there until Confirmation Sunday on June 10th. Please say a prayer for these young people during this spiritual journey and tie a knot in their quilt. You are invited to follow along in this journey with them by reading this Confirmation Corner

This past weekend all 6 of the youth going through confirmation attended the mission trip and confirmation retreat at Lazy F Camp. Between working on projects at the camp, we met for two classes and then held a confirmation campfire on Saturday night.

During classes we went over some pretty big topics such as sin, grace and salvation. We also did an activity around what our image of God is and spent some time focused on Psalm 139. The youth were blindfolded and walked part of the camp both with a guide and without as part of a discussion on trust and being led by the Holy Spirit. The confirmation campfire was a special time where we each shared with each other the attributes, characteristics and stories we appreciate about each member of our group. Although some of us felt a bit uncomfortable hearing positive affirmations, it was powerful, emotional and beautiful.

Please pray for our confirmands; Erin, Michelle, Sofie, Hannah, Harrison, and Justin as they head into their last official class this Sunday June 3. Confirmation Sunday will be June 10th and there will be a reception in between services.

P.S. - I challenge each of you to take a moment this week to share with the people in your life the positive characteristics you see in them and how you appreciate them.  We do not take the time to share these affirmations with each other in our daily lives nearly enough yet they are impactful and worth our time.
Summer Kid's Club   June 24 - August 26
Sign up to host a Kid's Club this summer!  Kid's Club is a fellowship time for preschool and elementary age kids that takes place after Children's Time through the end of the Sunday worship service.  You can play games, do a craft project, read a story or play outside on the playground!  This is an important way that the church supports families and welcomes children at Aldersgate.  Please see Jen to sign up for a  Sunday to host a Kid's Club this Summer.
Summer Music
We are looking for any type of special music for the second service during the summer from mid-June through August. Voice, piano, small ensembles, bells or brass, all are welcome to share their gifts and talents with the congregation. Contact Hanae Straub at hanae.straub@yahoo.com.

CHURCH & SOCIETY
Congregations for the Homeless
Tuesday, June 5 - Saturday, June 9
Each June Aldersgate supports Congregations for the Homeless by  providing food for lunch and dinner for the homeless men staying at Christ The King Lutheran Church. This year from June 5 through June 9 we will be feeding about 35 men.   We have had a good response from the church for food donations yet we still need about 17 food items. We need milk, juice, deserts, etc. If you can help please  email Dave Maybee  or call him at 425-747-3668.
Crossroads Dinner Update
On the 4th Tuesday of the month Aldersgate serves dinner at the Salvation Army in Bellevue.   We thank everyone who has so generously donated and served food this year. Your time, service and donations are greatly appreciated!
  •  At the May dinner we served 57 men, women and children. The number fed has steadily increased from 40 people last year to 50+ people this year. We served all of the food we brought the last 3 months and we will need to increase the amount if the current trend continues. We are seeing more families and children and many of these people are very hungry. All are very appreciative of our efforts.
  • We are in need of food donations and serving volunteers during the summer months. The upcoming dinners are on June 26, July 24, and August 25. If you can help out with food or serving, please sign up at https://bit.ly/2H1qjPR .
If you have questions or would like to help please contact Melinda Lilley  or Rachel Saw .
Companion Care Givers Needed
There is a United Methodist minister from Wisconsin in treatment at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA). She has undergone a bone marrow transplant and will need to be in Seattle until July 31. She needs to be watched by a companion care giver thru the day. No medical or personal care is required, she only asks that companions be alert to any changes and call for help in that case.  She is staying at Pete Gross House at Republican and Minor- near SCCA, and SCCA staff are always available. Three hour shifts most days are available to relieve family and friends who have been taking the major burden in the first half of her stay.  If you can help, please contact Kathy Garner, coordinator at 425-640-2360, ksewsea@speakeasy.net or Rev. Valerie Fons 920-535-0077 breaduponthewater@gmail.com.
United Methodist Women Update
Last month's UMW Spring Salad Supper was a huge success with about 60 attending to enjoy lots of delicious salads and to hear Debbie DiMetri present her portrayal of Eleanor Roosevelt. An offering was collected for Hopelink which totaled $220.  A huge thank you to all who supported this event.
Fairwood UMC celebrates 1 year as Reconciling
Saturday, June 2
This June, Fairwood Community UMC is celebrating one year of being a member of Reconciling Ministries Network, a United Methodist organization that "works for full equality in membership, ordination, and marriage for God's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender children." On June 2nd FCUMC is celebrating by hosting a potluck for all. FCUMC would like to invite you and your church community to come help commemorate this anniversary, learn from each other, and share in fellowship. It is an opportunity to learn what difference it makes to a church to become reconciling. FCUMC has invited Rev. Dr. Izzy Alvaran, the Western Jurisdiction director for the Reconciling Ministries Network to provide an update on his work and the work of the Commission on a Way Forward, the 32 member commission formed by the United Methodist Council of Bishops to help forge a path forward on the subject of LGBTQ inclusion in the United Methodist Church.  The potluck is being hosted at Fairwood Community UMC at 6 PM on June 2nd in Benedict Hall. The address is 15255 SE Fairwood Blvd, Renton, WA 98058.
Bellevue City Council Considers Homelessness on the Eastside
Public Hearing June 11
On April 20, the City of Bellevue released its first draft of the proposed amendments to the Land Use Code (LUC). There will be a series of Council meetings this spring and a public hearing is tentatively scheduled on June 11 during which faith community members will have the opportunity to testify about caring for God's children throughout the community. In preparation for that public hearing, please read the attached amendments to the Land Use Code and prayerfully consider your own voice in the public dialogue about homeless Bellevue residents and the proposal to situate a homeless shelter in Bellevue.
Initiative 1631 on Climate Change Information
Tuesday, June 12
The Green Team is sponsoring Earth Ministry  speakers to come to Aldersgate to help us understand Initiative 1631  as it works its way toward ballots in November. It's in the phase of signature gathering and many faith communities are in strong support. Come on June 12 at 7:00pm and learn the role that faith leaders have played all along in drafting the initiative, protecting God's creation, and calling for justice for those most affected by climate change.
