Sermon
"Confirmation in Review"

Scripture
Mark 11:12-14

This Sunday we celebrate the Confirmation Class.  These 15 young folks have far exceeded our expectations and if they are both the present and future of the church, we are certainly in great hands.  Their personalities are very different, their skills are different, their ages, their gifts, their abilities, their feelings about certain things, their experiences within or outside of the church, are all very different.  Yet, in the midst of all of that diversity, they have come together as a group in unexpected and deeply moving ways.  I think some have the idea that a mostly middle school group can't get serious, talk about feelings, or explore difficult and challenging topics.  They couldn't be more mistaken.  This group has taken on sin, homosexuality, grace, love, acceptance, bullying, being different and done it all with the kind of patience and grace that can (and maybe should) be examples to us all.  Thirteen have chosen to join the church.  Two have chosen to wait and continue exploring.  That too takes courage and self-reflection and I couldn't be more proud of all of them, whether joining or not.  You'll meet them all on Sunday.  They will be leading first service and the Service of Confirmation will take place then.  They will be introduced at second.  They will be honored with a reception between the two services.  Let's come together and celebrate this amazing group of leaders.

Preschool Employment Opportunity
