Sermon
"The Strengthening of Our Children's Faith "

Scripture
Colossians 3:12-17

This Sunday we'll be exploring the experiences of a child and what that does to strengthen their souls.  So what is it that creates strength in our children?  What changes the life of a child most significantly is not just formal education.  It is in what they experience in life.  They learn with multiple simultaneous stimuli and all of that become more beneficial when it involves experiencing something physically that creates emotional involvement.  It is Camp, items listed in the whole Cotton Wool Revisited articles, family actions in service, things that involve them in physical and personal ways changing lives, creating story, and so much more.  It's having fun together and creating learning opportunities that they truly grow.  It is in them seeing and experiencing multiple generations working together to create fun faith-filled experiences that help them deeply their understanding of God, Jesus, Church and how it all works in the society around them.  Vacation Bible School is one of those opportunities. We'll explore this on this Sunday and talk a bit about what lay ahead next week and on into the fall, winter and spring...
Ministry News

VBS Decorating Help Needed
Sunday, July 24th
Decorations will go up this Sunday, July 24th after church.  Remember - the more the merrier!  We will have lunch brought in and have all of the decorations ready to go, so we just need lots of hands to help make the transformation to deep under ground where we can shine the light of Jesus all week.

Canopies Needed
We are looking for two easy, pop-up canopies to be used for the week of VBS.  Please contact  Jen Hoerber if you are able to let us borrow yours.  We will need them from July 24 through the afternoon of July 31.  Thank you!

Contribution Statements
The 2 nd quarter contribution statements were sent out via e-mail or regular mail, if we do not have an e-mail on file for you.  With summer vacations being taken, church attendance takes a normal dip and with this, a dip in our cash flow!  Please take a moment to review your statement and if you find you have fallen behind on your annual pledge, now is a great time to catch up.  If after reviewing your statement you notice a discrepancy, please contact Linda Reichenbach.   If you are interested in on-line giving, please contact Melinda Lilley.

ONE Service & Church Picnic
Sunday July 31, 10:00am
On Sunday, July 31st there will be  one worship service at 10am where we will worship as one body in Christ, followed by the church picnic at about 11:30am.  The main dish and drinks will be provided.  Please bring a salad or side dish to share with 10-12 people.  Also bring a lawn chair or a blanket to sit on.  We will have lawn games and a few contests to continue the fun!  Please sign up to attend on Sunday's attendance form.

Job Opportunity
With the retirement of Ted Snyder, Aldersgate is in need of a Facilities Coordinator.  Working with the Trustees and the Church Custodian, it is a paid part-time position involving a variety of duties which cover the maintenance requirements of the church property.  Experience with the church and working with volunteers is a plus. The hours are flexible and are expected to average 48 hours a month. Compensation rate is competitive and based on experience.  For more information, contact Rich Detering, Trustees Chairman, at [email protected] , or Harris Atkins, Staff Parrish Relations Chairman at [email protected]  .

Pastor Laura Wall Resigns
It is with great sadness that Pastor Laura shares her decision to resign her position at Aldersgate in order to accept full-time employment with Compass Health. Click Here to read more about her decision.

Resource Library News
We are very grateful to Pastor Brad who allowed us to select many books from his private collection!  Please browse a portion of these now on display on the library table and mobile cart, along with a few new books purchased at Annual Conference.

Kid's Club Volunteers
Please CLICK HERE to sign up to host a Kid's Club this summer. It is easy and fun and a great way to serve the church. Kid's Club is a fellowship time for kids during the first worship service. There are typically between 4-15 kids present that range from 3 years old to tween age. Share a part of your story and your passions with the kids - they love getting to know members of their Aldersgate Family.  Play games or do an art project with them.  Talk with Jen Hoerber about ideas that could work or to find someone to host with you!

Outreach & Missions World

VBS Mission Project - School Supply Fundraiser
Partnering with Congregations for Kids, AUMC and the VBS families are collecting school supplies for students from low income families within the Bellevue School District so that they will have a Good Start Back to School.  Please donate supplies t and drop them off at the school bus display in the narthex through July 31.  Click Here for the school supply list.

Gleaning  Volunteer Needed
Aldersgate has an ongoing gleaning project with Starbucks in Factoria.  We collect their leftover pastries and distribute them to homeless shelters. We need another volunteer for the third Friday of the month to collect the food and deliver it to the church freezer.  Please sign up on Sunday's attendance form if you can help.  And many thanks to all the gleaning volunteers who assist with this project!  Contact Jan Durham for more information.

Rebuild: Up From the Ashes
Dale Hoff, a retired contractor and Lay Leader at University Temple United Methodist Church is organizing work crews to travel to the Carlton Fire complex to help rebuild homes for families that are homeless as a result of the fires. Help is needed on July 25-26 and August 10-11.  If you are interested in helping, please contact Dale at [email protected] or 206-713-8233..
