Sermon:   "Being Intentional "

Scripture :  M atthew 5:1-16

This Sunday w e will pause to remember the 9/11 events of 15 years ago and talk about our role in the world today.   I will be exploring and offering the "6 P's of Marketing" and what they mean regarding the "word of mouth," neighborhoods, relationships, stories, and particularly regarding this place.  What do we want people saying about us?  What do we want people feeling about us, or this place or property or preschool?  I have some specific ideas I want to share and it's only fitting that it be on the Sunday  that precedes the beginning of our fall programs.  What if we built a path from the library to a reading place in trees?  Yet, "What if's" are only the beginning.  To see the potential of building relationships means we must take actions to fulfill the potential.  This sets the foundation for everything that will follow.  We're going to be exploring all of this through Easter.  In the midst of it I'll be bringing formalized proposals to the table for decisions.   Next week I want to examine our closest neighbor...the library.  Vision is something that is seen before it's done.  That's what I'm presenting today.  It's clear, concise and doable, and it could change everything.   After more than five years together, it's time to put it to work.

Ministry News

Music Staff Changes
We sadly announce the retirement of J. Allen Leslie as Second Service Music Director.  Allen has served Aldersgate faithfully for many years.  His desire to become more involved with his family, to focus on his final ten years in education, and his move to North Bothell have all come into play as he has made this decision.  He and Armand continue in our prayers in this time of transition, as does the choir, handbells and those who attend second service worship.  The Staff Parish Relations Committee is already meeting to examine the next steps for this position.  Pastor Brad will be meeting with members of the music groups to hear ways they might like to move forward from here.  Again, prayers for all. Click here to read Allen's letter of resignation.

Teachers Needed for Youth Sunday School
The curriculum is easy to use.  The youth are amazing and are asking for more.  Please prayerfully consider Youth Sunday  School. Even if it's only once a month, it would be a wonderful gift to the youth and church.  Talk to Jen Hoerber with any questions or concerns you might have about teaching.

Old Testament Stories ~  Starts September 14
From September 2016 thru June 2017, Pastor Brad will teach a class about the Old Testament stories and the truths they hold that are still relevant to us today. Our focus will be on God throughout Old Testament history. God seems to change in these stories, but the question is why and how?  The class starts on September 14 meeting weekly on Wednesdays   from 10:00-11:30am and also from 7:00-8:30pm; same class at two different times.  Everyone is welcome. Please sign up on Sunday's attendance form or by contacting the church office.

Reception Help Needed
We need volunteers to help with the reception following the Memorial Service on October 2.  Helpers are needed to set up and to clean up, and to prep and serve the food and beverages. We also need donations of cookies. If you can help, sign up on Sunday's attendance form, or email  Lea Fox, or call her at 425-641-6796.

Aldersgate Common Table ~  Monday, September 19
You are invited to the Common Table on September 19 at 7:00pm.  This gathering is for everyone who wants to have a voice in the life of the church.  It is a place to raise new ideas for the church and to hear what is happening on the ministry teams.  If you have an idea, please fill out this Common Table proposal form and email it to Jenny Andrews by September 12.
