Schools are winding down, choirs are breaking for the summer, vacation plans are being made. Summer is a great time to enjoy the time away from rehearsals, etc., but it is also a good time to think about the fall and yes, Christmas, during these hopefully slower and more relaxed months. My choir has enjoyed ringing Christmas music during our last month of rehearsals.

Now is also the time to begin planning to attend an event this fall or next year. For coppers ringers, there is Coppers Classic being held in Portland, Oregon, October 12-14. More information is in the article below. Look for Read 'n Rings happening around the area on September 22 and 29. In the Portland area, there is also the Pacific NW Handbell Directors'/Musicians' Forum (see article below). Then the annual conferences begin happening February 1-2 with the Snake River Handbell Conference followed by Inland Northwest Handbell Workshop the end of March, Siskiyou Summit Handbell Conference the beginning of May, and Big Sky Handbell Conference the end of April. It sounds a long ways off, but they will be here sooner than we think.

Please forward this newsletter to your choir members and to anyone else who would be interested in all the concerts and events. Encourage them to subscribe to the newsletter. Click "Join our mailing list" at the bottom of the left column or click the newsletter link on our website, area10.handbellmusicians.org . With permission, I can also add names and addresses.

Notes from the Chair ...

Now that summer is really here, I imagine many of you are finished up with worship duties for the year and spring concerts. If you are like me, you are looking forward to a few months of rest. However, I want to make you aware of something that will be coming up first  thing in the fall that you will want to be  ready for.

Area 10 will be sponsoring an area wide Read and Ring event on September 22nd and 29th. This area wide event will allow choirs or individual ringers to kick off the year with a fun way to gather together, read some new music and brush up on technique. We will be partnering with Jeffers Handbell Supply to provide an opportunity to read some new titles in a no-pressure atmosphere. You will have the chance to purchase music read at the event for a discount and avoid shipping as well!

There will be several locations in each state to choose from, so you can choose whichever location and weekend works best for you. There will be a single registration form, so registration will be simple and the cost will be minimal.

Registration will have to be in by late August, so be watching the newsletter over the summer for more details and registration forms. Be sure to pass the word to any ringers you know - you will not need to be a member of a full choir to attend.
In the meantime, enjoy your summer vacation!

Coppers Classic 2018 - October 12-14

Coppers Classic  is a massed ringing event for advanced coppers handbell musicians held annually in Portland, Oregon with Ellie Hodder, clinician. Our handbell musicians are solidly coppers musicians. They have good handbell skills, a commitment to their ensemble and are the backbone of their choir. Passion and the desire to learn and grow as a handbell musician are the qualities that characterize those who will have a great Coppers Classic experience but, most of all they love handbells!

Participants come from all over the United States and Canada.  Musicians rehearse for three days and present a public concert on Sunday October 14, 2018 at 4 pm.

Cynthia McGladrey, Presenter

*  Great Beginnings to Superb Rehearsals  Warm Ups. When our musicians have great skills, we all have great rehearsals and performances.
