Notes from the Chair ...
Last month I began my series on resources that are available with membership in Handbell Musicians of America. Last month I covered Overtones, the quarterly publication put out by our organization. This month I am going to shift to one of the online offerings: the Resource Library.
The Resource Library is made up of articles, interactive PDFs, PowerPoint webinars, videos, and more to help you expand your knowledge as a handbell musician. These resources are divided into sections aimed at three differing types of handbell settings: Community/Professional, Educational and Faith-Based; but most groups will find valuable resources in all three categories.
Here is a sampling of the topics you can find in each section:
1. Community/Professional
- organizing your group, fundraising and dealing with the IRS
- successful programming and connecting with your audience
- auditions and team building
2. Educational
- handchime curriculum, music's effects on achievement
- lesson plans
- performing in the school setting
3. Faith-Based
- bell trees
- organizing and caring for a handbell ministry
- ideas for use of bells in worship
There is so much to be explored here! There are lots of ideas and helps with topics you may face, as well as things you've probably never thought of. The Resource Library is found in the "members only" section at Handbellmusicians.org. It is another great benefit of membership in our national organization.
Next month: Member Notes and Chats ....

Form our Area 10 Conference clinicians
Hello Area 10 Musicians!
I am thrilled to be coming back to the west after living for nearly 12 years in Florida and North Carolina. I can't be more excited to kick off the next chapter in our lives with an amazing weekend of music making together in Corvallis, Oregon! Brian and I have picked some pieces that will push the limits of our musicality and I know will communicate well our love for this musical art.
If you have yet to register, I'm hoping that you can join us after your 4th of July activities for a special AREA 10 Conference July 7-9.
Please bring a musical friend with you and I promise to keep the energy high as we make breathtaking music together. See you in under 75 days! -
Jason Wells
Greetings Handbell Musicians.
It is an honor for me to be leading the Tins and Coppers divisions at the upcoming Area 10 Handbell Conference in Corvallis. We have some great music planned for the weekend, and I am looking forward to working with each of you over the weekend as we prepare music for our final concert. I would especially encourage individuals and choirs who have never attended an area event before to participate. An area conference is a great opportunity to make new friends, learn more about our art through the classes offered, and share in the joy of making great music together through massed ringing. I hope to see you there. - Brian Tervo
