|
Winter seasons bring unpredictable conditions that can change at a moment's notice. Rain, hail, snow and ice conditions all exist in the San Ramon Valley and places we travel. Be prepared to "brave the elements" at home and on the road. Consider the following steps to better prepare yourself.
- Clean gutters and storm drains around your property.
- Insulate your outdoor exposed plumbing and water fixtures.
- Request a professional inspection for older roofs.
- If traveling to the mountains remember emergency items including chains, small snow shovel, ice scraper, food and water.
- Before traveling check 5-1-1 for road conditions.

How You Can Help During the Holidays
|
If you are busy, but still want to help those who might be struggling during the holidays, the easiest and most effective way to donate is to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano in the 2014 "County Cares Holiday Food Fight." This is the 11th anniversary of the challenge between Contra Costa and Solano counties. Since the Challenge began in 2004, a total of 1.16 million dollars has been collected. County employees hope to raise over $100,000 again this year, which will take the accumulated total dollars raised by Contra Costa County employees and friends to well over one million dollarson their own. This year's theme is "Peas, Love & Veggies."
Although canned goods are appreciated and accepted, the Food Bank asks County employees and their friends and families to donate money in order to assist the Food Bank's purchase of fresh produce, which now accounts for nearly half of the food distributed. Also, because they buy in bulk, for every $1 donated the food bank is able to provide two meals to an individual.
Please join this Food Fight by clicking here and at the bottom of the page designate your donation to " Friends of Contra Costa County Employees" and Dedicate it to "County Supervisor, District 2." The Food Fight challenge between the counties runs through December 31.

Canine Corral to Close for Winter Moratorium
|
During this year's winter moratorium, the Town of Danville will be renovating the grass in the large and small dog parks at Hap Magee Ranch Park.
The moratorium, affecting all natural grass fields in Danville as well as the Canine Corral at Hap Magee Ranch park begins in December.
Maintenance Services Director Jed Johnson said the Bermuda grass blend that was installed during last year's moratorium withstood the wear and tear of the heavily utilized park much better than previously used grass types.
This year, the park will be renovated through a combination of sodding and seeding, and taking advantage of the increased amount of grass that remains in the large dog park at the end of the year compared to previous years. The winter closure will allow the existing grass to become more established and the new grass to take root prior to re-opening.
In addition to rehabilitating the grass, Town personnel will be performing other necessary maintenance during the winter moratorium, including replenishing bark mulch, fence and gate repairs, and refinishing or cleaning park amenities such as benches, drinking fountains and garbage receptacles.
The grass renovation is scheduled to take place in early December. Both the large and small dog parks will re-open following the winter moratorium on March 1, 2015, weather permitting.
For more information email Maintenance Supervisor Dave Casteel by clicking here or call (925) 314-3434.
