Make Artwork Transform Neighborhoods
|
Greetings!
ArtWorks has created murals in 28 Cincinnati neighborhoods and in 3 neighboring cities. This summer we plan to bring even more murals to even more neighborhoods. The projects created by our army of Apprentice Artists beautify public spaces - but even more than that, they bring communities together.
Here are what some of those communities have had to say:
"It was important that this mural was done in our neighborhood because it demonstrated to residents and visitors alike the community pride in the area. It is uplifting to all who work, live and/or play in the neighborhoold to know that someone cared enough to go to such expense and trouble to put this spectacular painting on the Be Concerned wall. Our experience with ArtWorks has been a consistently positive one."
-Paul Gottbrath, Be Concerned, Covington, KY
"The whole MuralWorks experience was a positive connection between young artists developing skills and communities and cultures they may not know much about. The MuralWorks team's presence and positive contribution brought out the kindness, friendliness, and generosity of South Cumminsville residents, and through this partnership we have a beautiful piece of art."
-Liz Columbo, South Cumminsville, Cincinnati, OH
"This project helped bring our neighborhood together...The resulting mural far exceeded our expectations - it's a great addition to our urban neighborhood."
-Deborah Herman, President, Clifton Heights Improvement Association, Cincinnati, OH
Help us to employ 130 young Apprentice Artists this year to transform even more neighborhoods across our region. These 14-21 year olds will get paid to make art work in their lives and across our city. Your donation will help us to put them to work. Will you you Adopt-An-Apprentice today and help us to Make Art Work?

The Pig with the Dragon Tattoo
|
Last week, art teacher Pam Kravetz and seven of her Harrison High School students got the chance to get some hoofs-on experience when they went to Atomic Specialties to receive a down and dirty sculptural lesson from Kris Swain as they worked on turning their fiberglass pig into a roaring Chinese dragon. Pam was kind enough to tell us about the experience!
The students cut out 1000 foam scales for the skin of their Pig/Chinese Dragon and then hotglued each scale on individually.
It was amazing to watch the student artists take ownership of the pig. They were able to see what it takes in regards to time, material and thought to create and make the vision a reality.
We spent about 8 hours working on the scales and only finished the TAIL!! It was so cool to watch the process evolve. They can't wait to do more.
Creating a Pig for the World Choir games is an honor for our school and students. We love being part of the Greater Cincinnati visual and performance arts community. By participating in this project our students connect with a different culture, a history and a huge city-wide event. What fun!
