Mark your calendar for the 15th annual Art on the Avenue fundraiser on November 10 and 12, 2011.  As you can see from the photo of last year's event, a good time was had by all!  And, we raised over $125,000 for Avenue CDC's programs, not to mention the $26,000 in art sales proceeds we returned to participating artists.

Avenue CDC is committed to using green building techniques to make our homes healthier and better for the environment.  As part of our environmental commitment, we are introducing an e-newsletter.  If you do not wish to receive future newsletters electronically, please unsubscribe below.

SPOTLIGHT ON AN AVENUE HOMEBUYER
The Bustamante Family
The Bustamante Family in front of their dream home!

"Don't be afraid, don't hesitate...have the dream you've always wanted!"

Married seven years, Gilbert and Hilda Bustamante, are still enjoying being newlyweds and growing their future together.  Gilbert, a retired Army veteran, and wife Hilda, both long-time Houston renters, had long dreamed of owning a home--of having a yard and garden of their own.  When Hilda saw a public service announcement for Avenue CDC's Homebuyer Education program, they decided to enroll in the course.

"The class was good,"  Gilbert recalled.  "The instructors put things on a level that everyone can understand."   After completing the eight-hour class, Gilbert and Hilda met with Diana Arriaga, one of the Avenue CDC Homebuyer Counselors, who helped them to assemble all of the paperwork necessary to apply for a mortgage and purchase a home.  Hilda and Gilbert happily share that Diane and Avenue CDC were "encouraging and professional during the process, especially with all the paperwork!"

Today the Bustamantes are very pleased with their house, one of six that Avenue CDC has completed in the Near Northside this year.  They enjoy their quiet community in the Ryon subdivision.  The three-bedroom, two-bath home is Energy Star certified, ensuring savings on future utility bills.  Most importantly, the Bustamantes love their yard, and they have been able to create the garden they always wanted.

DID YOU KNOW...ENERGY EFFICIENCY SAVES $$$

Energy Star_money isnt all you're saving

Avenue CDC's development program utilizes "green building" techniques and materials to make our homes healthier for our buyers as well as better for the environment.

All new Avenue CDC homes are Energy Star certified, reducing utility usage and saving the residents $200-$400 in utility costs annually per the U.S. Department of Energy.
