President's Message

Thank you for taking the to time to read this month's newsletter. If you think you missed reading last month's newsletter you are correct. Last month there was no newsletter due to a" technical glitch". So this month's issue is filled with lots of info about the goings on with NWHBPW and our members.

Our membership continues to grow. Since May we have added 5 new members! They are Sue Hurst (Sue Hurst Business Coach), Wendy Cole (Juice Plus), Brenna Taylor (The law office of Stephanie Taylor Jahnz), Shirley Lissner (Mass Mutual of Greater Houston) and Miriam Cooley (Central Business Marketing). And more good news, we have a few new applications pending approval.

Speaking of members, the Member's section of our website ( www.nwhoustonbpw.com) now has a listing of members available to the public. No personal information is listed, just our members. Now anyone interested in us can find out just who our members are.

The much awaited printed Members Directory will be available for sale at the August 20 meeting. This directory is for members only. The cost of the directory in its entirety will be $15. If you already have a binder and just want the contents, the price will be $10. If you want a directory and are not able to attend this month's meeting you may order one and pay for shipping. Sounds fair, right? Thanks to Sharon McClung (Sharon McClung Photography) for taking professional headshots last month. She did a great job. If you have not submitted a picture to me, Grace Harrington, by August 16th, I will be forced to use a picture that I think is good.

Did you know that our very own Deb Evans (Franchise Foundry) is now our Social Media committee chair? She has been helping us strategize how to best get our organization in front of more people. She will be having an article in the newsletter going forward.

This month at our luncheon we are not having a speaker. That's right! Yours truly will be facilitating some networking games. I have a lot of tricks up my sleeve. If you dislike networking, you will love this meeting. No speed networking, I promise. We will focus on really getting to know each other. Guests are welcome and I expect that they will enjoy it too. Please be there at 11:00 and plan to have fun. Bring business cards and be prepared to effectively introduce yourself in 15 seconds.

One on One Challenge:

At the July meeting we introduced our new member challenge. From now until the end of January 2016 the member who has had the most one on one meetings with other members will receive their 2016 membership FREE - that's right , free, gratis, nada.

To qualify you must be a member and you must record that the meeting occurred, who initiated the meeting and who attended. There have been cards printed and distributed to help up you record your meeting history.

In the new Member Directory there will be a place for you to store these cards as well as an area to make notes. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to get to know each other better and have a little fun!

Imagine, if you will, that you have a group of women that you know, like, and trust. Imagine that they know what you do and why you do it. And they think of you FIRST when someone they know is looking for someone like you.

Wouldn't that be awesome? Want to make that a reality?

This month we are going to make that vision a reality. At this month's luncheon President Grace Harrington (Harrington Financial Services and certified coach) will facilitate some fun exercises to improve our self introductions, learn to ask for what we want, and how to listen for what others need. "How will we do that?" you ask - Not to worry - We got this!

Next meeting August 25, 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

The Dollars and Sense group meet on the fourth Tuesday of every month at Another Broken Egg Café, 118 A Vintage Park Blvd. It is located on the street closest to HEB. Breakfast, Brunch and Lunch options are available between $6-11 per entrée.

ALL BPW members are welcome to attend and bring guests. Reservations are not required.

2015 Women of Excellence Update

On Saturday, Sept. 12, we will be honoring our very own Woman of Excellence, Goldie Roberts, at the Federation of Houston Professional Women's annual gala.

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and is at the Norris Center, 816 Town & Country Blvd., Houston 77024. If you'd like to attend, there is time to register, as the deadline is Aug. 21st. Discounted tickets are sold out; cost is now $100 for members and guests.

The following ladies will have registered to attend and cheer Goldie on! If you'd like to carpool to the event, please contact your BPW girlfriends to make arrangements.
