TRAFFIC DETOURS
Delaware Avenue
June-October 2017

The Delaware Avenue Hamlet Streetscape Enhancement construction project will begin the week of June 5.  The $3.1 million project makes enhancements to Delaware Avenue from Adams  Street to Elsmere Avenue, and portions of Kenwood Avenue and Adams Street. These enhancements consist  of new sidewalks, crosswalks, curbing, on-street parking, new road pavement, street trees and decorative  lighting fixtures. Infrastructure improvements under the roadway will include new storm drains and a water  line replacement.

Construction is projected to extend to the end of 2017; minor restoration work and landscaping may be  necessary in the spring of 2018. T raffic and travel will be impacted - see below for important information.

Beginning in June construction will occur  M-F generally from 7:30am to 5:00pm and this portion of Delaware Avenue will only be  open to one lane of traffic in one direction. All other times of the day, the road is expected to be open to  two-way traffic. When Delaware Avenue is down to one lane, travel will be one way - either eastbound  towards Albany or westbound towards Town Hall. At these times, detours will be provided for travel in the  opposite direction, using either Hudson Avenue, or Kenwood Avenue
(during non-school hours).

The Chamber is excited to be a part of a brand new initiative in town! Art on the Rail Trail (ART) is a new initiative designed to bring public art installations to the
Albany County Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail.
ART was conceived of as a means to enrich the lives of visitors to the Rail Trail and to encourage usage of the trail by local residents as well as regional visitors.

This new committee of the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy is a collaboration between town residents, local non-profits, with town, county and Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce representation. While the ultimate goal is to see various mediums of art up and down the trail, the pilot project consists of one mural to be painted this year. The mural will be painted on the side wall of the town-owned building located at the intersection of the rail trail and Adams St.

Entrepreneurial Assistance Training Program 

Bethlehem is accepting applications for grants from eligible Microenterprises - emerging and existing businesses that want to locate in or expand in town. Grant awards will range from $5,000 to $35,000 and can be used to purchase inventory, machinery, equipment, furniture, fixtures and to meet working capital needs.  See below block for more details.

As part of the Microenterprise Grant Program, the Community Loan Fund of the Capital Region will be offering its Entrepreneurial Assistance Training Program at Town Hall. 

Any business might be able to enroll, depending upon space availability - priority given to grant recipients.  C lasses begin on Thursday, June 29 from 6pm - 9pm and will run for 8 consecutive weeks. Tuition is $160. Click  for a tentative schedule of the topics to be covered.

MICROENTERPRISE GRANT  
Applications Now Available Online

The Town of Bethlehem was successful in its application to the New York State Office of Homes and Community Renewal for the renewal of the Microenterprise Grant Program.  The Town will receive $200,000 to provide grants to eligible Microenterprises, emerging, and existing businesses that want to locate in or expand within the Town of Bethlehem.  It is anticipated that a minimum of ten (10) businesses will be assisted with the awarded grant funds.  Grant awards will range from $5,000 to $35,000 and can be used to purchase inventory, machinery, equipment, furniture, fixtures and to meet working capital needs.

Rain Hair Studio will be hosting a Cut-A-Thon to benefit Matt Hamilton, who was involved in a horrific accident. On Sunday, June 11 Rain  will offer free haircuts with a minimum $10.00 donation from 11am-4pm. 100% of the proceeds will go to the family.

For the past few years, many town residents have been  volunteering at Colonial Acres Golf Course  to create a nature-based education and recreation program, which is now called  Colonial Acres Golf & Nature Park.  The property is owned by the Town of Bethlehem as part of the Parks and Recreation Department.  The goals include managing the golf course as an environmental demonstration course, but also as the premier Golf Learning facility in the Capital Region.  ISC-Audubon has "adopted" the property as a primary project in the Capital Region. Last year the Nature Trail was completed, and enough money was raised to build and install 2 bridges that cross the main stream that runs through the woodlands around the course. The Bethlehem Historical Association celebrates the opening of their summer exhibit, Bethlehem 100 Years Ago, with an Ice Cream Social on Sunday, June 11, from 1-4pmThe exhibit takes a particular look at what our town was like during World War I.  Highlights include the Woman's Land Army farm in Selkirk and the WWI veterans that honored their fallen comrades annually as part of the Last Man's Club. Enjo y a free sundae made from ice cream courtesy of Stewart's Shops!  The Cedar Hill Schoolhouse Museum is located at 1003 River Road in Selkirk and will be open Sunday afternoons from 2 to 4 PM June 11 through the end of October.  Admission is free.  Visit the website   for more info.
