MICROENTERPRISE GRANT  
Applications Now Available Online

The Town of Bethlehem was successful in its application to the New York State Office of Homes and Community Renewal for the renewal of the Microenterprise Grant Program.  The Town will receive $200,000 to provide grants to eligible Microenterprises, emerging, and existing businesses that want to locate in or expand within the Town of Bethlehem.  It is anticipated that a minimum of ten (10) businesses will be assisted with the awarded grant funds.  Grant awards will range from $5,000 to $35,000 and can be used to purchase inventory, machinery, equipment, furniture, fixtures and to meet working capital needs.

We'll be hatching a brood of chicks inside the Bethlehem Public Library this spring with guidance from environmental educator George Steele. He'll be at the library Saturday, April 29, at 2:15 p.m. for "Which Came First?" where he'll talk about how an egg incubator works before helping us set one up in the Children's Place. He's also bringing along a rooster and hen for children and families to meet. On Sunday, May 7, Steele will return for "Inside the Egg" at 2:15 p.m., where he will show everyone how to "candle" the eggs to take a look at how the embryos are developing.Once they hatch, the chicks will hang around for a week or so before heading to the farm. The Albany Capital District Walk for Pancreatic Cancer Research will be held at the Elm Avenue Town Park on Sunday, September 10, 2017.  The walk directly benefits The Lustgarten Foundation and pancreatic cancer research efforts. CAP COM Federal Credit Union has opened its 2017 Scholarship and Award application and nomination period. Each year CAP COM's charitable giving arm, the CAP COM Cares Foundation donates over $75,000 in scholarships and awards. New this year, CAP COM will recognize 3 teachers in addition to over 30 student honorees. Students pursuing degrees in higher education may apply for one of our scholarships by answering an essay question provided. Students and educators can also be nominated to receive a Making a Difference Award. Application and nomination forms are available online
The acceptance period will close on May 1. Winners will be recognized and awarded at CAP COM's Annual Scholarship & Award breakfast in June.

The Tuesday Delmar Farmers Market opens for the season on Tuesday, May 2, 2:30-6pm, at  Delmar First United Methodist Church , 428 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar. Stop by for the first of the season produce and farm fresh items. 

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED (age 16 or older) for the PLAYGROUND BUILD at Bethlehem Town Hall on Saturday, May 6 - "I Love My Park Day" -- from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (2 shifts available). The Bethlehem Police Department's Traffic Safety and Family Services Unit will team up with Albany County Traffic Safety Division to conduct a car seat check and installation on Thursday, May 4th, 2017, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.  This event will be held at the Elm Avenue Park, 261 Elm Avenue in Delmar.  It will be held rain or shine, no appointments are necessary. Please see website  for locations of other fitting stations and car seat installation events.  This event is held as a coordinated effort by the Bethlehem Police Department's Traffic Safety and Family Services units, as well as Albany County Highway passenger Safety and the New York State Governor's Traffic Safety Committee.

On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays between 10 AM and 2 PM, the Town of Bethlehem accepts donations for Habitat ReStore of the Capital District of slightly used furnishings, cabinets, and other building materials at the Town of Bethlehem Transfer Station, 136 Rupert Rd, Selkirk, NY.
