Azaleas + Houston = Spring
March 1, 2012
Donna

Dear Gardeners,

One of the landscape plants hardest hit by last summer's drought was azaleas.  They are still a good choice for Houston gardens -- it just reinforces the need for proper planting and care.  If we take a look at the azaleas that fared well, we would see that they were planted in soil enriched with lots of compost or peat moss, their roots were covered with a healthy layer of mulch and they were watered -- not daily, but thoroughly at least once or twice a week in the summer.  So, don't ban azaleas from your garden because of one lousy summer.  Houston loves azaleas -- and if we  treat them lovingly, they provide a dazzling show every spring!  Click this link for tips on growing azaleas in Houston.

You have been asking and now it's here -- time to redeem your Gardeners Reward Points!  A cashier can tell you how many points you have (it's printed at the bottom of your receipt).  Use them like cash on your next purchase.  Redeem them now through March 11.  More below.

This Saturday, March 3, enjoy a Day of Beauty (well, maybe a few hours), when Umar, locally famous makeup artist and hair stylist, shares two of his favorite skincare products in the Bungalow.  More info.

Can you believe it's March 1?  That means 2012 is already 1/6th over!

Happy March Gardening!
