It's Not Too Late to Get an Education

After being out of school for 47 years, Thomas Moore had some initial doubts about returning to the classroom. Now retired, he is focused on getting an education at Center for Literacy (CFL) - not just a GED®.  He wants to go on to postsecondary education at Community College of Philadelphia and prove to himself that it is not too late to put his mind to work.

Partnering in West Philadelphia

Center for Literacy provides classroom instruction and tutoring at Drexel's Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships. Philadelphia Neighborhoods, a publication of Temple University's Multimedia Urban Reporting Lab, featured a tutor coordinator, Vann Delaine, as well as the successes and challenges of illiteracy today.

Meet Our Learning Coaches

The first people at the Center for Literacy (CFL) that our students have some time with are our learning coaches. They get to know the learners by conducting a group intake and assessment session, followed up with a second one-on-one session.
