Class 9 Property Tax Update

This summer, CIC and  The Preservation Compact learned that the Cook County Assessor's Office had revoked Class 9 status from some Class 9 properties, resulting in significantly higher 2017 assessed values. According to the Assessor's Office, this change occurred because owners did not submit appropriate annual affidavits in past years.

Instructions for checking your Class 9 status and submitting the appropriate paperwork are available here. The Preservation Compact hosted a workshop on August 15 for nearly 60 participants, ensuring owners and property managers know whether they were affected, and how to reinstate their Class 9 status. CIC has also contacted affected owners to walk them through the process.

Affected owners should set up an appointment with the Assessor's Office by emailing  class9@cookcountyassessor.com to find out what they are missing in order to get Class 9 status reinstated.
CIC has approved more than $59 million in loans this year.
