 June Service Changes

This Sunday, June 3, Capital Metro is making some changes to its bus and rail service. Among the changes are improved Saturday frequency on the 1L/1M, additional MetroRail trips during peak hours and a few route realignments.

The changes also include some trip eliminations and schedule adjustments, as well as suspension of school related trips and routes.

View all of the changes and check out the new schedules to see how you may be affected.

Hydrogen Bus Comes to Austin

A zero emission hydrogen hybrid bus will hit the streets of Austin in early June. The prototype bus is part of a yearlong demonstration in Austin to showcase hydrogen fuel cell technology in an advanced electric drive transit bus.

It will operate among the University of Texas shuttles and be fueled at a state-of-the-art hydrogen fueling station on the J.J. Pickle Research Campus.

The demonstration is part of the Federal Transit Administration's National Fuel Cell Bus Program and includes collaboration between: UT's Center for Electromechanics, Capital Metro, First Transit, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the State Energy Conservation Office, the Center for Transportation and the Environment, Proterra, Gas Technology Institute and Hydrogenics.

Top Notch Transit Operators

Capital Metro is proud to have some of the best operators in the nation, and they have the awards to prove it.

Bus Operator Arthur Murillo was named Best Bus Operator in North America at the 2012 International Bus Roadeo in Long Beach, California on May 6. Murillo took first place in the 35-foot bus category. He previously won the international champion title in 2008, 2005 and 2002.

Paratransit Operator Ted Ward won third place at the Community Transportation Association of America's 2012 National Roadeo in Baltimore, Maryland on May 20. Ward placed in the top three among almost 50 participants in the body on chassis competition.

Congratulations to both operators. They represent safety and professionalism in transit.
