Christ Episcopal Church, Cedar Park, TX
Welcome to
Christ Episcopal Church!

Christ Episcopal Church is an open, inviting, and affirming place of worship, mission and Christian formation. We believe in blending the great traditions of our church with a fresh, modern, contemporary approach to the Gospel.

All are welcome.
PASSING OF JANE HAMLIN'S HUSBAND,
WILLIAM HAMLIN
WILLIAM HAMLIN

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Jane Hamlin's husband of 62 years, William Hamlin.

William Hamlin, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, August 16th. He is survived by his wife Jane, 2 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

All services will be private and held at a later time.

Our prayers go out to Jane and her family during this difficult time. Jane is surrounded by her family who have traveled out of town to be with her. Jane has asked that calls and visits wait for a brief period while her family is here with her.

At this point, Jane can best be supported by your prayers, a card, or email. After Jane's family returns home in two weeks, she will appreciate visits and support from her loving church family! Thank you for your love and understanding!
A NOTE FROM OUR RECTOR
TUESDAYS WITH TRAWIN

Join us on Tuesday August 23 and for three Tuesdays a month (not on vestry Tuesday), Father Trawin will be having dinner at BJ's Brewhouse in Cedar Park at 6:30 pm. Our Fifth Sunday Questions were so numerous and deep, it was decided to continue the conversations in other ways. If you like to join Trawin for conversation--either theological or otherwise--please be at the restaurant by 6:20 pm.

SECOND SUNDAY WORSHIP

Starting on Sept. 11 at 5 pm, we offer a contemplative style worship. If you like a quieter setting with more time for prayers and music, join us on the second Sunday of every month. Our hope is that we can have a "pot luck" type dinner afterward. Mark you calendars and look for more information to come.

NOTEWORTHY FROM YOUR VESTRY
One of the responsibilities of your vestry and rector is to look beyond today and vision what God has in store for us. To assist with this the vestry appointed a Site Committee. They have been hard at work looking at our facilities, resources, opportunities for growth and next steps. The vestry and the committee would like to update you as we begin to look for answers to the following questions.
  • Who are we?
  • How do we prepare ourselves for the growth
    that is coming?
  • What do our neighbors want?
  • What do we want to be?
  • How do we preserve our sense of community
    and values?
One decision has been made for us in that we will not be purchasing any additional property at this time. In some ways this is a great relief and will now allow us to look at and appreciate what we do have in our campus. The committee has done a fabulous job looking at options, making recommendations and looking for direction from the vestry. The committee is currently looking at our facilities and making a list of our immediate needs as well as deferred maintenance needs. This will take a little time. At some point we will need input from you in answering the above questions as well as others. We intend to accomplish this is several ways. One way is to hold some focus groups to discuss this and any other questions you may have. Be watching and please let us know your thoughts when the time comes.

This is an exciting time for CEC and we encourage you to give us your ideas and please consider joining the vestry. We are a small but energetic group, excited about our future and want to see CEC grow into all it can be. We look forward to seeing you at one of the vestry information sessions scheduled for Aug. 21 and September 20.
VESTRY INFORMATION SESSIONS

Sunday, August 21  |  after 10:30 am service
Tuesday, September 20  |  6:30 pm
Have you ever wondered what it is really like to serve on a vestry in the Episcopal Church? What is a vestry? What are the qualifications? How long is a vestry term? What does a vestry do?

If these are some of the questions, you have asked, the leadership of Christ Church is prepared to answer them-and many more. Several current and past vestry members will be on hand to answer your questions. Join us for one of the two vestry information sessions.

Our hope is that after you hear what a rewarding time on the vestry can be that many of you will consider being elected to the vestry.

Pizza and drinks will be served.

MINISTRY OUTREACH FOCUS for AUGUST

Leander High School
The time is quickly approaching for the new school year to begin.

This year we are partnering with Leander High School to support students in our area. LHS provides an International Baccalaureate program in addition to the advanced placements classes that are offered at other schools. The curriculum is rigorous and opens doors in higher education for the students. With advanced classes come class projects that require many supplies and materials to complete. Thirty percent of the students at LHS qualify for the school lunch program which means that they may find it difficult to purchase the supplies needed for their classes.

One of the ways that we are partnering with LHS is to help set up a resource room so that the students can get the supplies they need. (List of supplies LHS is below.)

For the next three weeks, we will be collecting as many of these supplies as we can to stock the resource room. After that, we will be collecting to restock as the supplies are depleted.

There are three ways that you can help!

1.  You can purchase the supplies and bring them to church.

2.  You can donate money with it noted as a donation for the purchase of supplies for LHS... or you can donate online!

3.  You can help when we deliver the supplies to LHS and work with them to set the room up.

Leander High School is our neighbor and our neighborhood students attend this school. Let's show our love for our neighbors by showering them with the supplies they need!

Peace,
Deacon Jan

PRAYER REQUEST SUBMISSIONS
Tell me more about the prayer ministry at CEC:

We are a group of people who are dedicated to praying daily for your intentions, your needs and those of your family and friends.

How can I submit a name for prayer?

We will need the full name of the person for our office records. Names will remain on the prayer list for one month. It will be necessary to add names each month if necessary.

Please send the names of those for whom you wish to pray to Donna Naymick at  [email protected].

Many in the congregation have asked if we can start to print the list of those for whom we are praying on a day to day basis. The answer is yes. The list will be printed each Sunday and first names only will be said at the prayers of the people.

On Sundays, or after any service, you can complete one of the prayer cards which are placed in every pew. Should there not be a prayer card in your pew, please let one of the ushers know and he/she will assist you. There is a wood Prayer Box, so marked, at the rear of the church on the right hand side as you exit. In completing the prayer request card or when e-mailing, please let us know if you require a call from either Fr. Trawin or Deacon Jan.

All requests are kept in strictest confidence and are only discussed within the ministry if clarification is needed.
ONLINE GIVING
Did you know that you are able to give your offering or tithe online? Just go to our website at http://cectx.org/give/ and click on the "Donate" button, and you will be taken to our secure server! We appreciate your faithfulness to give!

"Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure,
pressed down, shaken together, running over,
will be put into your lap; for the measure you will
give will be the measure you get back." -- Luke 6:38

Father Trawin leads the Sunday morning Lectionary studies.  We are using a resource called Synthesis CE, which looks deeper into the history and interpretation of the scripture. In order to make full use of the resource and to give time for study at home, we will hand copies of Synthesis out for the upcoming week. You may also find copies of the Synthesis in the Narthex (near the entrance).

Grab a cup of coffee and join us!
