Arbuckle Medical Clinic
The James A. Arbuckle Medical Clinic, established in 1991, provides free preventative, primary and urgent health care to City Mission residents. The Clinic works interdependently with all services offered at City Mission and cooperatively with community agencies and institutions such as assisted care homes, addiction treatment centers, the Veterans Administration and the Washington Hospital.
Homeless men, women and children have a plethora of barriers to accessing health care. For instance, The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) data indicates that two-thirds of the homeless population has chronic or infectious diseases (excluding AIDS) and that 55 percent are without health insurance. We find these statistics accurately reflect the medical status of the homeless in our region.
The good news is, we can do something about it! Last year, Arbuckle Clinic provided 4,647 medical interventions to our residents and the working poor of the community.
If you work in the medical field and would like to volunteer your time and talents please contact Volunteer Manager, Sue Gartland, sgartland@citymission.org, or (724) 222-8530 ext. 248.
