GIS Tips and Tricks

Multi Variable Legends
Make Data Spatial
More than a Map: Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can be used to understand where problems are in your crop and document the cause or symptoms of any deficiency.
iCropTrak allows you to configure a thematic legend for any of the variables your field personnel are measuring. Determine what the variable is that you would like to see as an overlay on your maps then assign a color to a range of values. The data could be anything from whether irrigation is currently on for a particular block or field, or, what the current yield estimate is. You can setup multiple overlays - perhaps for some key indicator variables or based on the seasonal crop cycle.
Upcoming Conferences:                                                                                       Visions for a Sustainable Planet                                                               to be held in Cincinnati, October 21st to 24th

Greetings!

We are not sure whether there is an iPad in every farm pickup truck yet but access to data while in the field seems to be a high priority for the farm managers we are hearing from. Some of our users are looking for flexible and complete data entry capabilities and others are looking for reports that aid decision making, all without requiring a trip to the office or the need to find an internet connection. Technology is moving management teams from the speciality of precision agriculture to a wider scope of decision agriculture and iCropTrak is facilitating both.
Our engineering team have been locked away in a dark air conditioned room for a few months and have turned out a range of new features in iCropTrak. We are keeping our focus on easy, flexible, mobile and intuitive!

Read on!

Version 2.6 in the App Store

All of us on the iCropTrak team are excited about the latest release of iCropTrak (V2.6).
This release represents another big leap forward in a number of areas and the app has now gone through the Apple certification process and is available for download from the App Store.

We have also upgraded our Amazon Web Services infrastructure to support automated scaling and real time continuous backup.
In this release look for several new options:
  • Farm Planning (featured in our next newsletter)
  • Soil Sampling and Grid/Random/Zone based Scouting (Pest, Weeds, Quality, and more with user defined forms)
  • Upgraded work orders
  • New overlay menus - Overlays can now be made from a number of variables at a time and data can be filtered precisely
  • Work orders display on Gantt Chart to give you access to a timeline of scheduled operations
  • Form Browser for Farm, Field, and Zone (Think Farm History)
  • Faster overlays that provide instant geographic reports inside the app

In this release Forms have also been upgraded to include:

  • New Field Sketch Widget
  • New Form level History button - historic data is displayed in overflow format for intuitive browsing - you can even access and update historic data
  • New Form Field entry History buttons

Feel free to send in your ideas on things we should consider adding in future versions of the tools to make them even more productive in your operations.

Thanks, from the iCropTrak team.
