Childhood Cancer Awareness

DC Candlelighters joined hundreds of childhood cancer advocates and organizations Sept. 19 and 20 for CureFest, an annual weekend dedicated to raising awareness and funding for childhood cancer research. We were delighted to have many of you stop by our tent on the Mall Sunday!

Night of Golden Lights event this weekend!
Due to a scheduling error by the Secret Service, the Night of Golden Lights event in Lafayette Square was cancelled at the last minute. The agency apologized for the error and the National Park Service issued a new permit for the event, to take place Saturday, Oct. 17 from 6:30 p.m. -- 8:00 p.m. in Lafayette Square in front of the White House.

Click the image above for video of last year's event.

Families are encouraged to attend the event, which includes music, dance and poetry, and culminates in a candle light vigil in front of the White House. To help organizers plan and ensure enough candles for all participants, please RSVP as soon as possible to: www.curefestdc.org/vigil

Not able to attend in person? Have your own vigil by lighting a candle at 7:40 PM in your time zone on October 17. Please e-mail info@curefestdc.org so organizers can keep track of the number of vigils taking place across the country. The goal is to have one hundred or more!

The Capital Wheel Goes Gold
The Capital Wheel at National Harbor went GOLD for childhood cancer awareness on September 29 and 30, joining iconic landmarks and buildings around the world. The Capitol Wheel is the first landmark in the Washington, D.C., area to light up gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness month!
