As a dance/ movement therapist and group leader, I have found it enormously helpful to consider my image of myself as leader. One such image is of myself as hub of a wheel and the interactions between me and individual groups members as being the spokes, especially when working with people with significant cognitive, interactional or sensory deficits. It was this image of the wheel that ultimately resulted in the the
creation of the Octaband.
Recently, in networking with others around the globe in the fields of dance, dance/movement and expressive therapies, and dementia care, I have begun to imagine myself as a gear in a fantastical mechanical clock I'm imagining as Wheels of Change.
In October, I will be presenting at the
ADTA 48th Annual Conference in Brooklyn, NY. on the importance of connection for people with dementia, and particularly the national, global and cross-cultural connections that will help us affect the quality of life for people living with a dementia.
