Connecting People 2 People
Sunday, March 4, 2012 |
Welcome to the March 2012 edition of Denver Urban Spectrum's Connecting People 2 People eNewsletter.
This month, like in the past, we celebrate the achievements of women as March is Women's History Month.
Our cover story features the national president of Jack and Jill, Denver's own Tara Labrie and her commitment to society. Take a sneak peek into the life of comedian Wanda Sykes and find out what makes her tick. Also this month, we learn about Brenda Palms Barber, a woman who is making life easier for ex-offenders as they transition back into society. Check out the Lady Falcons and the woman coach who is their inspiration. Last month we paid tribute to Etta James, but sadly enough, this month we say good-bye to "The Voice" in our final tribute to Whitney Houston. Next month, DUS will be celebrating 25 years of spreading the news about people of color. Check out 25 women who have made a lasting impact and significant contributions to the community and DUS - and why they will be honored as a Timeless Legend on April 28.
And don't forget the events coming up this month and next - check out their ads posted in this newsletter.
Most importantly we are working on our 25th anniversary celebration with 4 days of events. See the ad below. If you want more information, check out the ad on page 2 in this month's issue and below. Readers and subscribers, for more information on tickets, volunteer opportunities and ways to participate, call 303-292-6446. Niarah3d - The mixed expressions of symbolism and motif are qualities found in each sculptured series. Artist Deidre Hardin combines African designs with everyday Christian themes to create a series of forms reflecting the spirit within.
"My praise inspired clay sculptures are mixed media explorations with symbolism, texture, color, and form. Working in clay has a profound healing effect for me and my sculptures are reflections of that healing. "Mixed materials (clay, paint, textiles, found objects) combined with creativity are manipulated until they form a dynamic dance form that is both pleasing and balanced. Each sculpture is beautifully different, vibrant and colorful. I describe my work as visual virtues of praise."
- Deidre Hardin
Deidre and her family recently relocated to Dallas. Contact her at iamdeidre@att.net.
