Another year has come and gone and I hope that you are all settling in and prepared for the winter months ahead. Here at Earth Tracks we had a great year of classes, canoe trips, presentations and youth camps and we are thankful to all of the great people who attended these events. We have made many new friends over the last year and wish to get to know

each of you better while welcoming new people to the school.

Currently we are putting the finishing touches on our 2012 calender (we have some exciting new classes and trips planned!) and it will be posted on the website early in the new year.

In the meantime we are gearing up for a series of Wildlife Tracking classes and are thrilled to offer these opportunities to our new and old students alike. Read below for more information.

On an ending note I would like to send my deepest thanks to our two interns - Todd Armstrong and Steve O'Brien. Both Steve and Todd helped out tremendously over this past year and things would not have run nearly as smoothly without their help. I wish them both the best on their new adventures.

Algonquin Winter Wildlife Tracking

Sunday Feb. 19th-Friday Feb. 24th

13 years and counting, this special week long adventure into the heart and soul of tracking continues to be a highlight of the winter for us at Earth Tracks.

White Pine Programs And Earth Tracks team up to provide an intimate group of 10 participants with an intensive and fun experience centered around the science and art of tracking.

Topics covered include: track identification, sign identification, trailing, trail interpretation, trail patterns vs. gaits, predictive trailing,

winter birding, bird language, kill site analysis and more.

Tracking Apprenticeship Open Weekends

One weekend a month we meet with our Tracking Apprentices in a different location in South or Central Ontario and guide them in learning about the many aspects of wildlife tracking. After many inquiries we have decided to open 2 of these weekends to anyone curious about the program or who just want to spend a weekend tracking with us.

The dates and locations of these weekends are:

January 14-15th 2012 - Beaver Valley - Near Kimberley

May 19-20th 2012 - Southern Georgian Bay - near Wasaga Beach

Cost is $250.00 (+hst) for the weekend. Dress for the weather and pack a lunch,

Track and Sign Evaluation Weekend

We are pleased to announce that we will be hosting the second annual Cyber-Tracker International Track and Sign Evaluation here in Ontario this February 26-27th 2012. This two day event will take place near Dwight, just outside of Algonquin Provincial Park.

Space is limited to 10 participants and we require a deposit to reserve your space. Please contact us asap if you are interested. Spaces are filling fast. For more information on the certification process and what this weekend will look like please refer to the Links below.

Learning about Wild Plants

Intern and Wild Plants Apprenticeship Opportunities

In the new year we will be accepting applications for our Internship Program here at Earth Tracks for the 2012 season. If you feel called to join our team and work with us next year send us an email and we can set you up with the application process. earthtracks@gmail.com

Secondly, we will be offering a Wild Plants Apprenticeship Program in 2012 that will run in a similar way to our Tracking Apprenticeship program that began this past fall. One weekend a month for 10 months we will connect as a group in various environments around southern and central Ontario to learn from, through and about the wild plants that grow all around us. If you are called to immerse yourself in the green world with a group of like-minded folks than get in touch with us. More information as well as dates and locations for our outings will be posted in the new year.
