Library Books and a Booksale

The Mission of East Central Regional Library is "Connecting and strengthening communities through the power of knowledge." We provide access through a variety of formats - electronic, audio, and print. In the combined catalog of all 14 of our branches, we have 396,765 items (books, CDs, DVDs, tapes). Our annual budget to purchase new items is $321,000 (2011) and we strive to put it to the best use to buy current materials for people to check out, in order to support our mission. We also receive donations and assistance to purchase items from volunteers and Library Friends groups across the region.

As we purchase new materials, we scrutinize the items currently on the shelves to determine their currency and viability. Some things become outdated, others lose their popularity and we don't need as many copies as we once did when the items were hot bestsellers.  If something is no longer needed, we pull it from the shelves to make room for other newer items.

What happens to those excess items? We have a booksale! And the proceeds of that sale allow us to buy new items.

Come to the ECRL booksale at the Cambridge Public Library on March 18, Friday from 9:30-5:00 and on March 19, Saturday, from 9:30-3:00.  A $2.00 bag sale will be held on Saturday ONLY.  Friday prices will be:  hardcover - 50 cents; softcover - 25 cents; and nonprint items - 25 cents.

What is MnLINK?

Through MnLINK, you can find a specific book your library no longer owns or recent research information from the University of Minnesota.  MnLINK is the next step, after you've searched Evergreen, ECRL's own catalog.

MnLINK is a statewide virtual library that electronically links you to Minnesota's rich library resources.  By using MnLINK, you have access to online catalogs from over 20 Minnesota library systems as well as most of Minnesota's colleges and universities.

You can access MnLINK by simply visiting the ECRL website at www.ecrlib.org and clicking on MnLINK.  You can place interlibrary loan requests with your ECRL card.  There are basic tutorials on how to use the site or stop by your local ECRL branch and staff will be happy to assist you.
