Lives Change @ your Library: Celebrate National Library Week April 13-19
This week, East Central Regional Library joins libraries in communities, schools, and campuses nationwide in celebrating National Library Week, a time to recognize the value of libraries, librarians and library workers.
Libraries in 2014 are more than repositories for books and other resources. Libraries are the heart of their communities, campuses or schools. Libraries are the place TO BE -- trusted places where everyone in the community can gather to reconnect and reengage with each other to enrich and shape the community and address local issues.
Librarians work with elected officials, small business owners, students and the public at large to discover what their communities' needs are and meet them. Whether through offering e-books and technology classes, programs for job seekers or those to support early literacy, librarians listen to the community they serve, and they respond.
The theme for National Library Week 2014 is Lives change @ your library. How has your library impacted your life? Tell us, with a tweet, a picture, or a story. Tweet your story with the hashtags #LivesChange and/or #NLW14. If you need more than 140 characters, send it to us at [email protected]. Kids Design Glass Program a Hit!
The Minnesota Department of Education recently featured ECRL's Kids Design Glass Legacy project on its website. This was a wonderful opportunity for East Central Regional Library to showcase one of its programs and provided great exposure for our library region.
This past week they also added a blog about the project which showcases all 14 sculptures. Check it out on their BloggED page.

All Things Connected: Using a variety of animals, props, and activities, the Zoomobile naturalist will lead children through a process of discovery to recognize the relationships that connect all life on earth.

This event combines the talents of David Eicholz and Ted Manderfeld in a show featuring beloved musical standards, spirituals and sing-alongs sprinkled with comedy, costumes and wit!

Hinckley Public Library
MN Author Sarah Stonich will speak about her latest book, Vacationland. "Vacationland's Naledi Lodge is inspired by those rustic mom-and-pop resorts that are disappearing along with their big fish, bad mattresses, wooden docks, and bonfires."

Sherlock Visits Schools, Expos and More!
Sherlock, ECRL's mascot, has come out of hibernation and has made several appearances in the past month. He appeared at the Chisago Lakes Area Library and Fairview Clinic for a Reach Out 'n' Read program, the Princeton Community and Business Expo, and the Rush City Parent Teacher Organization Carnival at Jacobson Elementary School in the month of March.

Sherlock has upcoming appearances in Cambridge at the Week of the Young Child celebration and the East Central School Carnival in Finlayson in April and May.

Heroes Vs. Villains Winners
Looks like the villains narrowly escape victory as the winners in our Heroes vs. Villains March Mania contest at several of our ECRL branches.
When one branch winner came to pick up their prize, his young kids were thrilled that "dad" won! Fun was had by all the participants in trying to pick who would come out the ultimate Hero or Villain at their branch.
Even staff had some "heated" discussions as to who was better - Hermione or Katniss? And would Hermione's powers win over Darth Vader?
