Read to the Rhythm Summer Reading Program

East Central Regional Library urges families to shake, rattle, or roll to the library for our Read to the Rhythm summer reading program. This music-themed program encourages kids and teens to read throughout the summer.

Each of ECRL branches and our Outreach program will host a range of free activities for children and teens that encourage and support a love of reading. Participants also can win prizes for reaching their reading goals.

There's also a serious side to summer reading. Research has shown that reading over the summer prevents summer reading loss. Children who don't read during the summer can lose up to two months of learning by the time they return to school in the fall. Those children who participate in summer reading programs and read a minimum of six books score higher in reading AND math when they return to school. (Dominican University, IMLS funded research: Public Library Summer Reading Programs Close the Reading Gap)

Students read more when they can choose materials based on their own interests as well. East Central Regional libraries are committed to supporting lifelong learning and educational enrichment for all families and the summer reading program is a big part of that committment.

So hop and bop on over to your local East Central Regional Library branch and Read to the Rhythm this summer. Call your local ECRL branch for more information and to pick up a flyer listing all the available activities and learn about the program guidelines at each branch.
