Vineyard Stomp 5k today at 6pm!
Elkin Creek Winery & Vineyard

Benefits Trail Development!

Thanks to Elkin Creek Winery & Vineyard for choosing EVTA to receive proceeds from this year's Vineyard Stomp 5k fundraiser. We will put this to good use building trails in our community! And thank you to Grassy Creek Winery & Vineyard for doing the same thing last year! It won't be long before we'll be able to visit these wineries via a hike/bike "Camino de Vino" trail...just a few more miles to go!

Mountain Bike Trail Taking Shape!
Dirty Thursday Workdays at 5:30pm

Don't forget...you can join EVTA every Thursday evening at 5:30pm for Dirty Thursdays mountain bike trail work. If you or your group would like to help us get this awesome in-town hike/bike trail finished this summer, please contact
Rob Libbert, EVTA mountain bike coordinator, for details and directions.

THANK YOU to Elkin Jaycees for a contribution that will make a really cool entrance to this part of the trail a reality. And kudos to Will Gwyn, Adam McComb, Rob Libbert and Guy Brown for developing the plan that will take the trail across the old brick bridge...

Old brick bridge discovered on mountain bike trail.

Connecting Vineyards to Downtown!

We owe a huge amount of gratitude to a great group of volunteers who are quietly and steadily linking our in-town Elkin trail to the upper part of the Stone Mountain Trail and the Grassy Creek Trail. Thanks to Jason Taylor, Herb McDonald, Edward Hurt, Scott Poindexter, Mike Bovender, Bob Hillyer, Joe Mickey, Mark Combs and many other volunteers and landowners for making this possible.

Kudos to Bob Hillyer, Steve Wells, Jimmy Chappell and friends for setting a new bridge over an unnamed tributary to Grassy Creek on the Grassy Creek Trail extension headed toward Elkin and by some beautiful water falls. Thanks to Jimmy Chappell and Hassell Watson at Watson Metal for their donations and hard work.

Davidson High Students Rock!
Helping EVTA for the Second Year!

Davidson High School student returned to our area for the second year to assist EVTA volunteers in trail building and enhancement. They put up five directional sign posts made by Bob Hillyer, did some trail clearing, built water bars and rock steps across a small stream and much much more...all on some of the hottest days of the summer! Thank you, Davidson High School students for this lasting contribution to our region.

Come back next year!

MST Thru-Hikers in Elkin...
Amy & Chad

Thank You, Trail Angels, for making them feel at home while passing through our area!

Local folks make sure MST thru-hikers find a laundromat, get a meal, have a nice place to camp and even host them in their homes with a nice clean bed and breakfast before sending them on their way. If you would like to provide some local hospitality to a thru-hiker, please contact Cynthia Beane to become a Trail Angel!
