Why should you care about politics? Isn't it all outside of your control? Aren't the politicians just going to do what they want to do no matter how you vote or what you say?
The answer to all of those questions was found in the election results on May 5th. Never would any of us have believed that you could get 80.1% of Michigan voters to agree on anything! Never would we have believed that ordinary citizens could actually stop a tax increase from happening when so many special interest groups were being bribed to support it!
That's exactly what YOU did. You sent out post cards, made phone calls, talked to friends and family, sent out emails, and then you VOTED. The supporters of the tax increased were counting on most voters to forget that May 5th was election day and/or not care about a "minor election."
YOU CARED and YOU ACTED. You forced the State government to go back to the drawing board and do their job. The State Constitution requires the legislature to manage just three things:
2. Schools and
That's it! That's what our taxes are supposed to fund before anything else!
So thank you for caring about politics!
Webster states, "POLITICS: activities that relate to influencing the actions and policies of a government."
We MUST care about politics. The action or inaction of our governments, (the homes association, the township, the county, the state or the federal government) directly effects our daily lives. The quality of your life depends on politics. The more taxes and fees they collect, and the more regulations they pass, the less freedom you have to do what you need or want to do.
NEVER vote to increase your taxes unless you evaluate it against your loss of freedom.
