Greetings!
August is upon us and the weather is glorious out here where the Okanagan Meets the Shuswap!
Over the past several weeks we have been welcoming in visitors from all over the globe who are eager to explore this amazing area. Our Visitor Information Counselors and River Ambassadors have been extremely busy arming tourists with the appropriate information to help make their stay more memorable, more incredible, and of course, longer in duration! In fact, last Saturday alone, the Visitor Centre helped 200 people plan their vacation itineraries!
By now, many of you have had the chance to attend the Cliff Avenue Pedestrian Market, featuring the vendors of the Open Air Farmers Market and our many participating Enderby merchants. The weekly Friday event has literally drawn thousands of people off the highway to explore the area's delights and we know that many have come to Enderby from farther distances specifically for the market. It has been a pleasure working with the many people that have helped to make this market get better and better with each passing week. If you need some help, or ideas on how you can take part in the Cliff Avenue Pedestrian Market, don't hesitate to call or email me.
August is full of exciting events like Routes & Blues (a Roots & Blues Outreach Project), Grindrod Days, Grindrod Garlic Festival, and Music By The River to name a few. Check out below for details on all the upcoming events.
Please enjoy the latest newsletter and we'll surely see you all out there enjoying the best days of summer. Cheers! Darren |

Enderby and District Community Resource Centre
Enderby and District Community Resource Centre is participating in a newly formed committee called FACT (Food Action Committee for Today/Tomorrow).
FACT committee members represent a variety of people from School District #83, Food Bank, Good Food Box, Interior Health, the Enderby and District Credit Union, the Faith Community and other organizations and individuals whose common goal is to boost food availability for people living in Enderby.
The FACT committee is asking growers, gardeners and orchardists to participate in our drop off program by sharing any abundance of fresh veggies and fruit to our three volunteer locations on Wednesdays between 9:00 am and 10:00 a.m. The locations are:
- Enderby and District Community Resource Centre
- Twice but Nice Thrift Store
- Splatsin Band Office (located at 5775 Vernon Road).
The produce that is donated is then available to anyone who is looking for fresh local fruits and vegetables. Produce that is not picked up by Wednesday at closing hours is then shared with the food serving agencies or dried and frozen for soups in the fall and winter at our Family Place program.
Who needs food? There is no single, typical profile. The people helped include families with children, employed people whose wages are not sufficient to cover basic living essentials, individuals on social assistance, and Canadians living on a fixed income, including people with disabilities and seniors( Food Banks Canada).
Enderby and District Community Resource Centre would like to thank the citizens who have brought fresh lettuce, spinach, kale, garlic scapes and dill to our FACT project.
For more information, please call Sue at Enderby and District Community Resouce Centre on Tuesdays or Wednesday at 250-838-9446

MacKenzie Camp
MacKenzie Camp hosts Open House
and Celebrates 65 Years of Camping
MacKenzie Camp was ringing with the sound of people of all ages as they celebrated 65 years of offering an "Outdoor Wilderness Experience" of camping to children in our communities on Saturday, July 21st. Over 100 guests, campers, parents and staff enjoyed a beautiful day at camp complete with burgers, hot dogs, desserts and cake. The afternoon was completed with the Drama Camp presentation at the end of an intensive week of preparation of a drama on the importance of birds in our ecological environment led by Cathy Stubington and Lanna O'Brien.
The Open House was scheduled for earlier in June, but had to be canceled due to the high water, flooding at Mabel Lake, and a road wash out. This did not deter the celebration of "65 years and going strong". A big "Thank You" goes out to the Salmon Arm Men's group from First United for donating and grilling all the burgers and hot dogs; cookies that came from a number of communities, board members who served, cleaned, did dishes, and drove the boat; and camp staff who gave tours and co-ordinates the large influx of people.
It indeed takes a whole village to raise a child! MacKenzie Camp has been able to provide over $23,000 in camperships with the help of so many individuals and groups in our surrounding communities. It is not too late to send your child to camp. A highlight of the summer is the Intermediate and Fly Fishing camp (August 7-12th) and the Teen Camp (August 15-20), followed by a nice quiet Yoga Retreat for adults (August 24-26th).
