Holiday Running |
The holiday season, a shortened version this 2013, is now upon us. We had a bit of snow, some cold and that has contributed to the wonder of a winter holiday. December is an interesting month. A transitional month into our much maligned Buffalo winters. A month of family gatherings, holiday parties, late shopping nights, too much eating out, and often not much time left in the busy schedule to work out. I have always looked at December as a month to rest a bit - give the body a break before jumping back into training in January. Just don't let it be too much rest or you could face some extra pounds and a dip in your level of fitness.

We have many opportunities in December to get you out on the roads. The Wednesday night group run this week is one of our best - the Jingle Bell Toy Run. We love seeing the mound of toys donated at this run - all benefiting the Response to Love Center in Buffalo. Then Mizuno is back in the house at Fleet Feet Sports. Join us for the Mizuno re-Launch run. And we even have a Special Saturday morning group run with Adidas. Check out all the details and get out for a run - burn some of those holiday cookie calories off.
Want to try something totally different in 2014? Fleet Feet Sports is proud to once again partner with the American Lung Association and the Buffalo Fight for Air Climb. I was part of the Fleet Feet team last year and that climb up 38 floors was one of the toughest things I have done. But I loved it and will be back again in March. Check out the details on a practice climb this month and watch for how to be part of the Fleet Feet Team - don't climb alone, climb with Fleet Feet!
What are your running goals moving into 2014? Get started with running, go a bit faster or go the longer distance? Fleet Feet Sports training programs get started in the 1st quarter of 2014. Our proven Marathon and Half Marathon training programs start in January with an exciting, new partnership with Adidas and our commitment to providing the best coaches, schedules, and support. Our Beginner and Intermediate 5K groups begin in March.
Think you can't do it, afraid of taking that first step, not sure it will really make a difference? There are so many success stories from Fleet Feet Sports training programs - inspiring stories and transformations. One of our training group participants. Tim - starting with No Boundaries and moving to the Distance group - told us his story which we hope will give you the courage to take that first step!

Fleet Feet Sports Buffalo is thrilled to announce that The Biggest Loser Half Marathon/5K is coming to Buffalo! Dan has been working with the Buffalo Niagara Sports Commission to make this happen for our community.
The race will be run on Sunday 8/31/14 and will bring in runners from across the area as well as former contestants. The Biggest Loser Half Marathon/5K will replace the Fleet Feet 15K-Run into Buffalo which has run on Labor Day for 7 years. What will not change is Fleet Feet Sports commitment to our community and Shoes on Students (SOS)! A donation from The Biggest Loser Half Marathon/5K will benefit Shoes on Students and continue to provide new training shoes for young runners in our community.
Mark your calendars - 8/31/14. Visit the race website - register for the Half Marathon, the 5K, and bring the kids out for the 1 mile run - run on Labor Day weekend. Watch for more details from Fleet Feet Sports on training programs to get you ready to challenge the Biggest Loser Half Marathon/5K.
