Forward Cody
is more than Eleutian

Scott Wagner

As we are preparing for the Eleutian Grand opening and the tour of the community that we will be giving to the Wyoming Business Council, we have taken some time to look back at all that has been done in our community recently, and the projects that have received assistance from Forward Cody. As the talk in the press will be Eleutian, I am also going to mention the otherlarger projects that Forward Cody has a hand in making happen in the community.

YRA

Forward Cody has been instrumental in keeping and growing our air service
YRA has two major airlines, United and Delta with Daily service to Salt Lake and Denver
2011 will likely be a record year with over 30,000 enplanements - 3rd - 4th busiest commercial airport in the state (flip flop with Gillette)

YRA Industrial Park
Constructed with $1.5 million BRC (Business Ready Community) funds
City and YRA owned ... lease only.  FAA rules don't allow a sale.
Forward Cody is working on two project which may be viable on this site

Old Airport Terminal
Purchased by Choice Aviation one of the local fixed based operations
The facility was considered as a Business Committed project for the development of a flight training school.
Choice Aviation was recently awarded a 141 flight school certificate (commercial pilots)
Choice Aviation has partnered with Northwest College to create an Associates Degree in Aviation Science and is now in the accreditation process.
First class will begin in the Fall of 2012.

Light Manufacturing Incubator
Formerly the City Water Works but was sold to a company out of Montana.
Forward Cody purchased the 11,000 sq ft facility in April of 2009 with a Business Ready grant.
After some initial repair (ADA compliance) the facility was leased to Big Horn Armory, a small start up firearms manufacturer.  Lease is 2 years.
Big Horn Armory manufactures a 50 caliber lever action
Big Horn Armory now has 4 employees but will grow their employment to 8-10 over the next year and a half.
Lease payment return to our community revenue recapture fund.

Cody Labs
Started in 2000 by Rick Asherman, former WBC Board member
Purchased the old Wal-Mart in 2006.
2007- Company was acquired by Lannett Company and remains a wholly owned subsidiary of that company.
Manufacture the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients for pain medications
    Has 81 employees at present
Proposed project which may be before you in December is to add a 24,000 sq ft warehouse to the facility.  This will allow storage space inside the main facility to convert to production space and ramp up their production.
The proposed project will create 26 jobs at an annual payroll of $1.6 million. ($61K average annual payroll)

Cooper Arms/Best of the West/Wilson Barrels
    Former Ballard Rifle building
Company which we met at the SHOT Show (with the Business Council)
Interested in a joint Venture with Best of the West.
Manufacture a long range shooting system and produce a half hour TV show for Versus, Spike and other networks.
Looked at the Light manufacturing Incubator and consider doing a Business Committed.
Decided to do an outright purchase and finance it locally.

Sleeping Giant
50 miles up the North Fork.  Located on the Shoshone national forest and operates under a special use permit.
Ski area closed in 2004.  Purchased in 2007 by Jim Nielsen and donated to the non-profit Yellowstone Recreations Foundation
Was awarded a $500,000 community enhancement grant in 2009.  Funding was used to pay for infrastructure improvements on the mountain.  Match for the project exceeded $900,000
First season had dismal snow and the area struggled.
Last season had great snow, lots of events and hosted over 10,000 skiers.
The operation was close to break even for the operating season.  Still relies on fundraising.
Is planning a summer activity - a Zip line - actually 7 in a series from the top of the mountain to the bottom.  This is expected to significantly change the cash flow picture eon the project.

2AB Business Park/ Infrastructure
Former Bureau of Reclamation project area
Gifted to the Cody Land Development Corporation
About 60 acres developable or transferable.
About 50 that are very good industrial lands with rail access

Scouted all around Wyoming for a place to land
Now making flavored raisins and cranberries.
Can also custom package other dry products ( 35 bags per minute).
Set Tastie foods up with a group if investors and a management team.

Machining Companies
Cody is home to a number of precision machining companies manufacturing products ranging from oil well tools to tiny parts for the airline industry.
Somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 CNC machines operating here today.
One company manufactured a very specialized part for the space shuttle.
Precision Machined Products used a Challenge loan to aid in equipment purchase.

Business Parks
Rocky Mountain Business Park, Musser properties, GC Cody, CLDC and YRA lands.
We have met with private developers to look at ways to work in partnership

And Eleutian.

Five GOOD reasons why should you support Forward Cody with a monetary donation.

Thea Marx

1. Because of economic development, Cody has a vibrancy that is missing in a lot of Wyoming towns. (What does that mean, really? Cody is growing and if a town is not growing, it is dying.)

2. Without Forward Cody, local businesses would have no where to go for answers to critical business questions or help getting crucial business sustaining projects completed.

3. Your monetary donation is used to build an organization that creates projects that pay for themselves, helps the organization become self sustaining and returns money to the community.

4. When companies want to come to Cody, who else would help them arrive at the decision that it is the right place for them to be?
5. Who else is going to work hard to bring good paying jobs to Cody?
