E-Weekly Header
March 18, 2013

Dear Girl Scout Family,

Last Tuesday was the Girl Scouts' 101 Birthday and I was busy.

My day started at 7:30 a.m. at the Chamber of Commerce. I talked about how our girls are making  the world a better place and emphasized that girls can join anytime and  attend an event, camp, or series. "There's many ways for girls to be involved in Girl Scouting, not just troops" I emphasized. The presentation closed with a reflection about Founder Juliette Gordon Low and the 18 girls who began this movement in the United States.

Back at the office, I met with our membership, program, and volunteer directors talking about what's coming up this year and next for our girls and their friends (more about THAT next week).

Amidst this schedule I got a visitor. Nadia was born on March 12, 2012 -- the Girl Scouts' 100th Anniversary. Her mom, Diana, and her little brother came in to spend a few minutes of her birthday with us. Nadia enjoyed a Thin Mint and listened intently as I cooed and visited with her family for a few minutes. I took a picture and shared it on our Facebook page ... but it wasn't until after she left that it hit me. Nadia is the future. Everything I do today is setting up this program I care about so deeply for Nadia, her daughters, and her granddaughters. It's a powerful thought -- and one I keep going back to. Sometimes we can get so caught up in the busy-ness of our lives that we forget that our efforts truly will make the world a better place for generations to come. Thank you, Nadia, for that powerful reminder.

Happy Birthday again, Girl Scouts! Have a fantastic week filled with powerful moments!
