Harmony Among Nation's Best High Schools!

Three Harmony Science Academy High Schools (Dallas, Houston and Austin respectively) were ranked among the top public high schools in the nation, according to an analysis by the Washington Post. The analysis was conducted out of 27,000 U.S. public high schools in the nation.

 

Since 1998, The Post's Jay Mathews has ranked Washington-area public high schools using the Challenge Index, his measure of how effectively a school prepares its students for college. (More on how the Index works below.) In 2011, the Post expanded its research to high schools across the United States.

Five Harmony Schools Earned Title I Award!

Five Harmony Schools, who consistently demonstrated strong academic performances over a three-year period, have been recognized by Texas Education Agency (TEA) for Title 1 Part A, Distinguished Schools for 2010-2011. The schools are as follows:

Harmony Science Academy El Paso

Texas Team Third in the Nation

Congratulations to the Texas team for winning third place in the National MathCounts contest in Washington D.C.

 

Harmony`s own Isil Nal had the honor of coaching this year`s team. Isil Nal was the coach of this year`s winning team, Harmony School of Excellence, at the state competition.

I-SWEEEP off to a Good Start

I-SWEEEP, the International Sustainable World (Energy, Engineering, and Environment) Project Olympiad, rang up the curtain with an unforgettable opening ceremony on May 5, 2011.

 

The packed audience at the George R. Brown Convention Center listened Annise Parker, Mayor of Houston. Dr. Marshall Schott, Assistant Vice President of University of Houston, aslo addressed the crowd.

 

Chinese Dragon Dance, Mexican Dance and Texas Two-Step Dance were the highlighted showcases of the ceremony. The Flag Show, an I-SWEEEP tradition, was the last but the most exciting part of the night.

Breathtaking End to I-SWEEEP

I-SWEEEP ended in a breathtaking fashion!

 

All the hard work of students who had been competing at I-SWEEEP for three days came to an end on Sunday, May 8 at George R. Brown Convention Center. Attended by distinguished people such as William Flores, President of UH Downtown and Paul Lynch, British Consul General, the event was the home of another packed crowd.

Annise Parker, Mayor of Houston, paid a visit to Harmony Public Schools on May 10, 2010. Mayor Parker addressed to an audience mainly consisting of Harmony parents from all over Houston Harmony Schools. She received a standing ovation before she got on the stage.

 

Greeted by Dr. Tarim, Dr. Celepcikay and Mr. Akyildiz, Mayor Parker had a school tour first seeing the hands-on experiments of Harmony high schools students.

Harmony Celebrates 10th Year at GRB

Harmony Public Schools celebrated their "A Decade of Excellence" on May 20, 2011 at George R. Brown Convention Center.

 

The keynote speaker of the event was Dr. Rod Paige, former Secretary of Education and the creator of No Child Left Behind Law (NCLB). In his speech, Dr. Paige praised Harmony Schools and their strive, commitment and success in reaching out to underserved communities.

 

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Congressman Al Green and Congressman Pete Olson also made brief speeches in the event commending the ten year of success of Harmony Public Schools. Ed Emmett, Harris County Judge, Adrian Garcia, Harris County Sheriff, Dr. Spears of Region 4 and Dr. Wimpelberg of University of Houston were a few of the notable people in the audience.

Dallas 10th Year Celebration

Harmony Public Schools packed all but the uppermost tier of the Winspear for a celebration of its 10th anniversary on May 2, 2011.

Texas Sen. Royce West and U.S. Rep Kay Granger offered their support for the chain in recorded videos, and Laura Leppert, wife of U.S. Senate candidate Tom, turned up in person to accept an award for her husband's support of public education.

 Austin Celebrates 10th Year

On April 19, 2011, Harmony Public Schools celebrated their 10th Year Anniversary at Hilton Hotel in Austin.  

 

Featured Judge Eva Guzman of Texas Supreme Court, the event was a great success with the participation of close to 500 invitees. Judge Guzman praised Harmony Schools' contribution to the Texas community. Harmony parents, teachers and successful students were recognized at the event.  

 

Some several awards were handed out to the dignitaries from Austin area. Those who could not attend the event send their best wishes to Harmony Schools via video call.   


10th Year Event at the Capitol

May 11, 2011 marks a successful event for Harmony Public Schools, who celebrated their 10th Year Anniversary at the heart of Texas, the Capitol Building. Overall, the day was a successful one and drove further awareness of Harmony Public Schools' great achievements in Texas.

 

There were more than 25 attendees from the House of Representatives, including Representative Jose Menendez and Alma Allen, while more than 10 visitors came from the Senate and Legislative Groups including Senator Rodney Ellis and Van de Putte.

 

  First Place at UT Math Contest

Seven students from Harmony School of Excellence and Harmony School of Advancement participated in UT-Arlington High School Math Competition on May, 14, 2011.

 

Pradhith came first at this very challenging competition and Paul was placed 4th.

 

Five other Harmony students were also placed in top 10.

Harmony Rocks FTC Tournament

Harmony School of Advancement Robotics Team Mohawk Warriors Ranked #2 at FTC State Championship tournaments. Until that point more than 150 Texas teams were eliminated at the tournaments.

 

HS Advancement have two robotics teams. The teams had to play against each other at the semifinals and Team 4454 had to eliminate the Team 4455 to be able to reach to the Final.

 

We have two of best three teams in Texas, Congratulations.

Another Feat at FTC Tournament

HSA Waco High School FTC Robotics Team participated at the Regional Tournament at Austin on Saturday, May 7.  

 

The team got the second place at the end of the first round of six qualification games among 22 teams. After the first round, Obliterators did a great job during the elimination games as well. They made all the way to the semi final but lost after a close game. Waco Team's robot was nominated for the most innovative robot award. Congratulations and job well done for the team members: Kenz, Cristian, Renat , Mauro, and Aaron.

Computer Olympiad Camp Qualifier

11th Grader Leon from Harmony School of Advancement has qualified for United States Computer Olympiad Camp.

 

The USACO training camp is a week-long program held to determine which four students will represent the American team at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). Around 15 students from US are invited to the camp, which is usually held in late May or early June at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Dr. Marzano Lectures Teachers

Dr. Robert Marzano, educational researcher and author of more than 30 books and 150 articles,  presented to an audience of over 300 Houston area teachers and administrators at the Cosmos building on Friday, May 13th. 

 

The title of his presentation, The Art and Science of Teaching, provided teachers and administrators with a new approach for professional reflection and evaluation.  His presentation included research based practices, sharing of personal stories from is time as a classroom teacher, video clips, and suggestions for practical application.

The modern Mother's Day is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, yet most commonly in March, April, or May as a day to honor mothers and motherhood.

 

Celebrations of mothers and motherhood occur throughout the world; many of these can be traced back to ancient festivals, like the Greek cult to Cybele or the Roman festival of Hilaria.

 

Harmony Public Schools wish all mothers Happy Belated Mother's Day.

With all the budget cuts and teacher layoffs, many are keeping an eye on education.Amidst turmoil within public education, a different type of school system is both expanding and hiring. Texas charter schools have the second fastest growth rate of charter schools in the country.

Houston School Sends All   Their Graduates to College

How many schools can brag because 100% of their students go on to college? At least one Houston charter school can.  

 

Harmony Schools of Houston celebrated that and several other accomplishments in a luncheon earlier this week. Fox 26's Damali Keith was there to celebrate with the kids. Houston Mayor Annise Parker also spoke with the students to congratulate them. Superintendent Soner Tarim says "I am very proud of the kids. We have been able to accomplish this thanks to the kids and the wonderful teachers we have".
