    Science Fair Showcases Young Minds

setxThere is certainly no lack of intelligence in the youth of Southeast Texas, and a group of middle and high school students got their chance to prove that Saturday. Harmony Science Academy held its annual Science Fair for Grades 6th-11th in the cafeteria. Most of the students have done "green" science fair projects and they were able to display that all  Saturday. Every student designed their project to be environmentally friendly. One project has to do with converting an ambulance to a bio-diesel solar ambulance. Several students were given awards for their projects.

                    KWTX News Car Show

Two very scary illnesses brought these model cars and model students and their families together Sunday at Harmony Science Academy Waco for a pair of kids in need. 6-year-old Ernesta was diagnosed leukemia. He needs a bone marrow transplant to survive. "It is very hard. We try to stay strong most of the time," says Ernesta's mom. Eleven-year-old Brianna had a stroke on Labor Day when helping her family in the yard. "She was in the hospital for about 23 days. She was in the coma for a week and half," states Brianna's mom.

Both students are fairly new to the school. A small academic community stepping in to help their own by raising money through a bake sale, car show and celebrity autographs from stars like former Dallas Cowboy Burt Lawless. "I have got a 16 year-old-son. So, he had a lot of sympathy and empatyh for these kids. When you know a person's child hurt, you are also hurt," says Lawless.
