NEW LAND - application for extra pitches, extending the drive and extra parking.

As some of you will have read in the Mercury on 4th September, the Ware Town Council planning committee rejected the planning application for our new land. The Town Council are consultee's but the final decision will be taken by East Herts District Council. The article contained some erroneous information. Please take a few minutes to read the article below.

New Land Planning Application  - THE FACTS
Land Purchase

NewLandFurther to the article in The Mercury, I feel it is important that our members should be aware of some misinformation and misperceptions that appeared in the Mercury article:

  • The article states ".... in the absence of an official representative". Whilst we would like to thank Councillor Devonshire for speaking on our behalf, the Town Council did not inform the Club that this planning meeting was taking place nor did they invite us to speak on behalf of this application.
  • The provision of playing fields does not have any impact on the Green Belt.
  • People do not walk their dogs on this land.
  • The reason we have made this application is because our current ground is unable to cope with demand. Our club is expanding, for the last 2 seasons we have been forced to ask one age group (U8s) to train and play off-site at Pinewood School. Our women's and girl's sections are expanding following England Women's World Cup victory. We have long waiting lists in our entry age groups in the Mini Sections and increasing numbers in the Youth Section.  We anticipate that next year's Rugby World Cup will further increase demand on our facilities both for adults and children to enjoy playing rugby.
  • The application to improve the access to the club will improve the traffic flow in Hoe Lane as we would have a two-way drive so that cars do not have to queue on Hoe Lane. Additional car parking would negate the necessity for cars and coaches to be parked on Hoe Lane, further improving traffic flow and road safety. I would have thought the local residents and indeed the Town Council would welcome such improvements.

I will of course keep our members informed re this application and the hope we can improve our facilities for all.
