Blue Zones Promote Healthy Lifestyles
The Kailua Village Business Improvement District is encouraging everyone to "Go Blue!"

The inclusion of West Hawaii as a Blue Zones Project makes Hawaii Island the first county in the nation to go completely blue. What's a Blue Zone anyway? The Blue Zones Project started after National Geographic studied five places on earth where humans live longer and have healthier lives. Among the key attributes these communities shared: eating right, staying active, reducing stress, mental and social well being and waking up with a purpose.

KTA Super Stores has embraced Blue Zones and you can see evidence of this right here in their Kailua store. In-store signage and shifting product placement to highlight healthier food choices encourages us all to lead a healthy lifestyle. Lowering obesity rates, smoking and chronic disease creates a healthier place to live, work and play. And that is something all of us can support and get behind.
Tuesday Trot 5k Fun Run & Walk

Kailua Village Business Improvement District is pleased to support a free weekly event that aligns with Blue Zones principles. Every Tuesday you are invited to join the Tuesday Trot 5k Fun Run and Walk through Historic Kailua Village. Big Island Running Company coordinates the non-competitive, free weekly 5k that begins at their Alii Drive store location in the Coconut Grove Marketplace. Visitors, residents, children, anyone and everyone are invited to join in the community camaraderie and help promote active, healthy lifestyles. You can walk, run or stroll but be sure to be there!
Kokua Kailua Afternoon Stroll

And here is yet another opportunity to stay active, reduce stress and engage socially in Historic Kailua Village. Our popular Kokua Kailua afternoon stroll on Alii Drive returns on Sunday, March 19 from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm when Historic Kailua Village becomes a festive, pedestrian-only (leashed dogs are welcome too!) outdoor marketplace. Expect a fun family day atmosphere. Don't forget to stop in at Hulihee Place at 4:00 pm for an hour-long free and inspirational musical afternoon on the seaside lawn.
