  Jaguar Football

The Jaguar football team is currently in preparation for the 2016 football season of full contact. The football team started the year out with flag football and transitioned to full contact to get ready for next year's season. The team is looking to have roughly 20-25 members on the team both girls and boys may play. The team has been diligently working on both offense and defensive schemes during practices. The players have been practicing extremely hard putting in great effort to be ready for next year.

During the off-season the players not participating in winter or spring activities will be expected to partake in weight training to get stronger for the future. The slogan All IN! has been adopted by the football team for the bright future we have here at Horizon Science Academy Toledo. Go Jaguars!

Staff Spotlight

Mr. Aydin Kara is our new principal for HSAT!  He was first at Horizon Science Academy in Columbus, Ohio in 2002. After teaching several years, he became the Director of the school. During his employment at Horizon Science Academy Columbus, he earned a Master of Science degree in Education with a focus in Educational Leadership from the University of Dayton

In 2008, he was hired as a Director by Horizon Science Academy Cleveland Middle School managed by Concept Schools. In 2011, he joined Chicago Math & Science Academy (CMSA) to lead the school as the principal. Under his leadership, CMSA has achieved Level 1 Excellent High School status in 2013.  CMSA was also recognized by US & World News Report to be one of America's Best High Schools in 2015.

CMSA currently has the highest "college persistence" rate of all the non-selective high schools in Chicago. This means when our students enter college, they STAY IN COLLEGE!  This past August of  2015, he was hired by Horizon Science Academy Toledo as our school principal.

     WELCOME MR. KARA!
9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

On the morning of September 11th of this year, HSAT staff and students engaged in a remembrance ceremony to honor our fellow citizens, firefighters, police officers, and soldiers.

During the ceremony, all students and staff (all 650 of us) formed a massive circle representing the unity that our country experienced shortly after the 9/11 attacks. While in this circle, students recited the Pledge of Allegiance and listened to a speech from Mr. McClellan, English teacher.
During the speech, students contemplated how we here at HSAT are united just like our great country.
Together we are strong; together we are HSAT Jaguars

Following the speech, students presented the flag and all involved engaged in a brief moment of silence. A big thank you goes out to all involved in this remembrance ceremony.
Go Jaguars! Jaguars ROAR!
Blood Drive

On Thursday September 24, HSAT hosted a blood drive for the American Red Cross.  Students who were not old enough to donate encouraged family members and friends to come in and donate.  Many HSAT students and staff also took their time to give blood. The blood drive was a successful event leaving Mr. Reigel and Ms. Mossing in tutus!
Cross Country Team Has Found It's Stride!

HSAT Cross-Country is dropping time and getting Jaguar-fast! Daily drills, runs and hill workouts have paid off, and we are in great shape and getting faster everyday.  We are very proud of the improvement our team has made over the year and look forward to next year.  LOOKING GOOD!
STEM in the Park

On Saturday, September 26   Bowling Green State University  held their 6th annual STEM in the Park event.  STEM in the Park featured interactive displays and activities created by area universities, community partners, and local businesses to engage children of all ages in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Ten of our students along with some staff members represented HSAT at this event.  The students presented science fair projects and performed science demonstrations. They did HSAT proud! Go Jaguars! Jaguars ROAR!
National Hispanic Heritage Month

During National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15), we recognized the contributions made by Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States with celebrations of heritage and culture.

Hispanics have had a profound and positive influence on our country through their strong commitment to family, faith, hard work, and service. They have enhanced and shaped our national character with centuries-old traditions that reflect the multiethnic and multicultural customs of their community.
Mrs. Diaz' students, grades 6th through 12th, celebrated this important event by learning and creating different projects that represent this rich culture with music, dance, and food.
  Saludos Amigos!
