 Concept Young Scholars Program

Concept Young Scholars Program (CYSP) is a new program for all Concept network schools that will focus on academic strengthening, healthy lifestyle, building confidence, volunteerism, exploration, and many fun activities.  It is a multifaceted program that is designed to prepare students to become future leaders in our communities.  At HSAT there are more than 50 students enrolled in CYSP.

Students who enroll in  CYSP  will enrich their learning and have more confidence. In addition, they will be engaged in a systematic process that guides, recognizes, and rewards their progress. The program offers a more challenging curriculum and has engaging activities such as Math Olympics, Science Olympiad, college trips, overnight events, and the Congressional Award program. Each scholar will have a chance to earn a Gold, Silver, or Bronze medal. Scholars who earn a medal will be rewarded at the end of the school year in an award ceremony. The medals and certificates are important for scholars to keep in their academic portfolio because they can ultimately help strengthen their resume and college applications.

The CYSP program is open to all students in grades 5-12 so that every one can have the opportunity to bolster their resume and enhance their college application.  Students should be in good standing, maintain their test scores and GPA as well as meet the attendance requirement for the program.

Future Medical Leaders Here at HSAT

Anastasia Harris and Keniya Brooks,  sophomores at Horizon Science Academy Toledo, have been selected as delegates for the Congress of Future Medical Leaders , which will take place in Lowell, Massachusetts, from June 25 to 27.

The Congress is an honors-only program for high school students who want to become physicians or go into medical research fields. The purpose of this event is to honor, inspire, motivate and direct the top students in the country who aspire to be physici ans or medical scientists, to stay true to their dream and after the event, provide a path, plan and resources to help them reach their goal.

During the three-day Congress, they will meet students from across the country and hear Nobel Laureates and National Medal of Science Winners talk about leading medical research; be given advice from Ivy League and top medical school deans on what to expect in medical school; witness stories told by patients who are living medical miracles; be inspired by fellow teen medical science prodigies; and learn about cutting-edge advances and the future in medicine and medical technology.

At HSAT and at all of our Concept network schools, we change the trajectory of student lives with STEM-focused education and real-world learning experiences that successfully prepares them for tomorrow.
Lady Jaguars Going for the Gold

The Lady Jaguars Basketball team may be small in numbers with only five  players on the team, but they are huge in heart and determined to be victorious.  The teams coach says "Practice is hard and tough, but they always go STRONG!"  The hard practices are paying off and the Lady Jaguars are undefeated so far this season.  Season tournaments are not until March and Coach says "We are already the team to beat and we will continue to push ourselves."  The basketball schedule can be found on Facebook; come on out and cheer on our Lady Jaguars. Go Jaguars! Jaguars Roar!
College Bound

After a delicious dinner, two Financial Aid Coordinators from Owens Community College gave a brief presentation about  financial aid including FAFSA, types of loans, scholarships, deadlines, and tips for paying college expenses. Good luck to all seniors and parents on all of your FASFA Filings!
Pancakes with Professionals

On Tuesday December 15th, 2015, HSAT staff hosted "Pancakes with Professionals" as a part of their ongoing commitment to preparing students for life beyond high school. After enjoying a pancake breakfast, 12th grade students completed mock interviews with staff members and received feedback on their resume, professional attire, and interview skills. After the event, Senior Marissa Muniz stated, " Having this experience has prepared me for real upcoming interviews. It gave me a sense of confidence for future interviews."
At HSAT, we transform communities one mind at a time with real world engagement.
