BOOKMARKING

At 20 years of age, is the World Wide Web a blessing or a curse? Likely a bit of both. One thing you can't deny: it's one of history's greatest and most consistently beneficial experiments in collaboration.

Especially when it comes to community building and the sharing of ideas. Anyday, anytime, anywhere, you're never less than a few clicks away from lifetimes' worth of information and ideas on courageous leadership and cooperation.

Similarly, InCommons inspires, fosters and celebrates collaboration among Minnesotans as well as individuals worldwide - whether in-person or online. We're always perusing online resources to help kindle the collaborative spirit. Following are but a few; we encourage you to check out, bookmark, learn and explore:

  • New York Times' "Fixes" is exclusive online commentary exploring solutions to major social problems, tackling an issue each week.
  • If We Ran The World encourages individuals to share ideas to make the world a better place. Enter your idea to discover individuals worldwide with similar ideas or "micro-actions" you can take to create the change you desire.
  • Walk Out Walk On encourages like-minded individuals globally to host or take part in collective "Walk Outs," or journeys in nature to share ideas, find solutions and "give birth to new systems that serve community."
  • Disposing of preconceived generational categories, Generation Waking Up is an open source collaboration of individuals inspiring and creating opportunities for young people to create a just, sustainable world.
  • Social Actions is in many ways a "Google" for collaborative change, with a clean, simple interface that enables visitors to find positive socially-minded actions or share them for others to discover.
  • Similarly, Creative Commons Wiki is a "Wikipedia" for creative endeavors and solutions available free and without copyright restrictions.
  • While there is no major media outlet devoting its entire content to the collaborative community, Good comes closest, with more than three-fourths of its content devoted to featuring collaborative, solutions-oriented actions.

What are your favorite online sources for collaboration and inspiration? We'd love to know about them. Email your favorites to info@InCommons.org today or post them as a resource for others to discover on InCommons.org.

The difficulties facing our society are complex. The solutions are not simple. Change is possible when we create an environment of learning, sharing and creative thinking. And, it becomes even more achievable when we soak in the experiences of others who have already discovered solutions.

Join us Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Minneapolis Central Library for the third annual Twin Cities Ashoka Solutions Forum - designed to highlight the stories of proven social innovators with a goal of inspiring local changemakers and growing the local changemaker community.
