GOD BLESS AMERICA!
I hope you enjoyed the 4th of July holiday that kicked off this beautiful summer month. We had an awesome time in our new community and enjoyed a celebration like we have never seen before!

As the grandkids and Grammie finished the day by lighting sparklers, I cautioned Brandon (6), Katelyn (5) and Sienna (3 on July 1st!) to hold only the metal end and don't touch the end that is sparkling. As they questioned me why, I showed them I was going to ignite the end of each sparkler so it would be hot.
They were having a grand time until Brandon brought me his used sparkler and asked, "What would happen if I touch this?" Before I could answer, he touched it. The look of anguish on his little face as he realized what happens when you touch a hot sparkler is imprinted on my mind. We put ice on the forming blister and he announced that he was never playing with sparklers again!
Don't we often do something similar when we're the cause of our own pain, but we blame God. We touch the fire of sin wondering if there really will be a consequence, and when there is, it's all God's fault. Just like Brandon blamed the sparkler for his self-inflicted pain.
This sparkler incident got me thinking about Adam and Eve who asked: Will anything bad really happen if we eat this apple? And generations of Americans have been asking the same thing down through the centuries: Will anything bad really happen if children can't pray in school? Teachers can't talk about God and creation? Homosexuality becomes normalized? Abortion is legal? Same sex marriage is legal? Living together isn't taboo? Celebrities are the new heroes setting values?
Of course, I could go on and you could too. Titus 2:1-7 instructs spiritually older men to teach and train spiritually younger men the benefits of a godly life, and "likewise," women are to do the same "so that no one will malign the word of God." What kind of good things would happen in America if we followed this command? Let's try it in our churches and homes today and see how God truly will bless America.

Janet's Testimony of Hope! on "Held" A Hannah's Hope Prayer Ministry Blog
Featured in Christian author and speaker Cindi McMenamin's July newsletter.
A Reader Encouraged! Hi Ms. Janet, My name is Sheila Brooks. I just recently bought and read your book, "Dear God, Why Can't I Have A Baby". Walking around Mardels this was the only book that jumped at me. The stories brought tears to my eyes...I felt the pain. You see, I had a total Hysterectomy & Salpingo-Oophorectomy at the age of 12. I am now 42. So, for 30 years I have suffered greatly. I'm now in the beginning process of trying my hand at writing a book. And I have also organized an outreach ministry to help with hysterectomy and sexual abuse. Your book has opened my eyes to more than just being barren or infertile, if you will. I saw that God will carry you through it all whether he opens a womb or not. And though I suffered greatly most of my life, I will be ok. I would love to share my story/testimony with you sometimes. Hoping to hear from you soon. Miss Sheila Brooks ******************************

A Ministry Leader Encouraged!
Janet,
Your book arrived in the mail today. Besides the beautiful pink cover, I was attracted to the captivating title. I meant to just briefly look through it, but the introduction caught me and I haven't put it down since. I love it. It's been a real encouragement and motivation to me at a time when I feel dry as a leader and wondering if I want to direct my women's ministry anymore!!! Great job on that book.
It's been a long 20 years for me in women's ministry and I feel "burnt out" because, like you said, I have not taken the time to adequately develop a team. But reading your book has not made me feel guilty about not developing a team, but rather has inspired me that it isn't too late to do what Jesus did. More importantly, your book has brought me back to why I minister in the first place...to serve my Lord.
Thank you for a book that is already bringing me back to the feet of Jesus.

********************************* God's Best For Your Life
Last newsletter we had a book give-away from my friends at Gospel-Light Publishers to the first three readers who responded with a comment or story of how you've discovered God's best for your life.
A letter from one of the winners:
Good Morning, just over a year ago, my husband, of almost 40 years passed away, he was a pastor for all those years too. My life became so very different so very fast. I never questioned why, but I did want to know what - what do you want me to do now? God blessed me with the strength to stand firm during those early months, the peace to weather all the changes that had to happen and deepened the conviction that He is Lord of my life. There are so many things that I now look at differently as I no longer have a husband and mentor to 'bounce' things off of. God gave me a clearer vision of my purpose and now I have the time to do so many of the activities that I never could before this happened. Out of sadness has come a renewed energy and focus to serve wherever He leads, a deeper love for my fellow man and a different understanding of death and suffering - hopefully I can be an encouragement to others who face similar trials. Just some thoughts to share..... Charlotte Whitting, Columbia, MD

FEATURED WOMAN TO WOMAN MENTORING MINISTRY TESTIMONY
We have a wonderful team of four women who lead our mentoring ministry. It is a very simple format, of both the potential mentors and potential mentees filling out applications, intake meetings, matching, and then follow up at the one, six and twelve month markers. Then if the pair wants to reconnect, we encourage them to do so. One of our team members writes an encouraging newsletter quarterly to both the mentors and the mentees and that is a nice encouragement.
We did host the Mentor Celebration Event in May and it was a wonderful time!

"GRAMMIE'S CORNER"

Trampolines are big in Idaho, so now that we have some wide open spaces, we bought one for the grandkids. The kids call it "the tramp" for short. Interesting how words take on new meaning to different generations. How many of you remember "Lady and the Tramp"?

A Praying Parent Encouraged!
Your book is helping me through this ordeal by teaching me to turn my focus back towards God and taking my thoughts off what Satan tries to get me to focus on. However, a support group would really be helpful. My (now) 18-year old daughter left home at 17 May 21, 2010, and had limited contact until 9/28/10...that day she cut off all contact with me and told my husband she would never come home and never wants to see us again. She has married her (now) 17-year old boyfriend and has had complete support of his non-christian Parents..boy it is a long story going back several years. My daughter is a beautiful girl who had such a precious relationship with God for a couple of years, until this boy came back in her life. Is there a support group anywhere in Mississippi? A Praying Mom Hi Praying Mom, I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter. As you have probably read in the book, I hear so often that it's meeting the wrong guy that leads girls astray 90% of the time. I don't know of a support group in your area but your email is such a confirmation of the need for groups. Keep Praying!! 1 Thes. 5:17. About His Work, Janet Thompson Janet, I actually talked to the Lifecare ministry at my church and they are starting a study group on the 29th...and another local church has a "praying for prodigals" group. They are both planned for Tuesday nights, so we'll see. I met with a friend of mine today and a co-worker of hers whose prodigal son came home in a mighty way 5 years from the day that he left. It was a very sweet time for the three of us. Thanks so much for your book. TALK TO US We have four "pdf forms"ready for you to download for free and customize to your group. I would love to hear from any of you who have started a Hope for Parents of Prodigal Daughters Support Group.

Meet An Author
I am delighted to introduce to you Kristi Neace and her books for wives and family's of police officers. Many of you have heard or read my testimony in which I share that my father, a California Highway Patrolman, was shot in the line of duty when I was ten. My mother became angry with God and never turned to Him again for comfort or solace. I so wish there were books like these and women like Kristi available to her. It would have changed so much about her life and my sister's and mine. I asked Kristi to share about her books.
Kristi Neace knew that God was up to something big when He paved the way for her to attend a Christian Writer's Conference, where she met a woman from Hawaii who suggested she write a devotional for police wives.
Three books later, a weekly blog, and many open doors for speaking events, Kristi is now ministering along with her husband - Cpl. Rick Neace - to law enforcement families across the country. You can sign up for her blogs. Kristi is always more than willing to talk about what God is doing in her area of ministry, so here are a few questions I asked her:
1. Why law enforcement? What types of needs do police officers and their spouses have?
Janet, my husband Rick has been an officer for 22 years. Though I'd never really thought of it until God dropped this opportunity in my lap, it totally explained away all the problems we had experienced over the years. Officers are under tremendous stress and pressure. They never know what they are going to come up against and it's hard to let down their guard once they enter their homes. The spouse, on the other hand, has their own set of issues. They can't understand why their husband/wife seems so distant and detached from the rest of the family. It's a complete circle of chaos.
2. How did you come to write your three books for police families?
The first one, Lives Behind the Badge, came directly from the Christian Writers Conference. I began putting out feelers over the internet about a compilation of stories from police wives. It was welcomed with open arms. The second, A Survival Guide for Police Wives, and third, Standing Courageous, were just released and again, were written as a way to let members of law enforcement families know that they are not alone here. The long hours, constant fear for your spouse's safety, stress at home scenarios are very real and experienced by even seasoned officers' families.
3. How has writing these books inspired others?
I get emails all the time telling me how thankful they are for having resources such as these. Many wives have actually formed police wives' support groups to better cope with the stresses since the release of the books and my weekly blogs. I am completely humbled and honored that God would use me in such a remarkable way.
