Quick Fact

Ever wonder where the country "Chile" got its name? It comes from a word used by the original nomadic tribe, the Yaghan, that lived in this land. They traveled by canoe between islands. The men hunted sea lions and the women were divers who hunted shellfish. In their native tongue, Chile means "Where the Land Ends."
Ah....that's where the Tinos are going!!

Jesus said, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations..." (see Matthew 28:18-20). Of course, not all Christians are called by God to go to other nations. Some go far away, but many more "go" to their neighborhood, across the street, or across town. Still, the Great Commission involves "going" in some way, shape, or form! As we spend our final days in the States preparing to GO to Chile, we are praying for YOU to follow God to the places He leads you!

 | Let's Go! |
It may not be immediately apparent, but this photo depicts the leading edge of mission! On August 17th, Rev. James Tino was installed at Peace Lutheran church in Sandusky, Michigan as their "missionary on loan" to the Lutheran Church of Chile.
Why is this news? Throughout history, the Christian Church has found a way to continue to fulfill the mandate of Jesus Christ to be "witnesses to the ends of the earth". As technology and innovation shrinks our world, it has now become possible to build meaningful partnerships between congregations (Peace), mission organizations, (GLO), and national churches (Lutheran Church of Chile).

Rev. Tino will be under the supervision of the Lutheran Church of Chile while on loan. Global Lutheran Outreach is making it possible for Peace to call their "own missionary"! We Lutherans can be doing SO MUCH MORE to advance the kingdom of God around the world! That's what Global Lutheran Outreach is all about: finding new and creative ways to GO into all the world, "from everywhere to everywhere"! Let's Go!

 | BREAKING NEWS! WE HAVE OUR TICKETS! OUR DEPARTURE DATE IS OCTOBER 6, 2014! Please remember to pray for us on that day as we begin this new calling in Chile. |
|
 | COUNTDOWN TO CHILE - 26 DAYS!!! |
We are now entering our 12th month of "support discovery". In October 2013, Jim preached at the first of what turned out to be over 30 churches, schools, and small groups, telling the story of what God is doing in Chile and how we hope to become a part of that story. It has been a long journey - at one time or another, we have been excited, frustrated, hopeful, discouraged, and encouraged. We have learned that "God's ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts". We have learned that the people whom God has called to partner with us in this ministry turn up in unexpected places. Above all, we have learned to trust God not only for "our daily bread", but also to hold our plans lightly, as they are often re-made (or un-made!) by the Master Planner.

As of August 31, we have 45% of the funds needed for our first year in Chile, thanks to YOUR gifts and pledges to our ministry! (100% of our "outgoing costs" are now covered!) Our goal is to have 60% of our first year of ministry funded by October 1st.
We are also delighted to announce that we now have 20 monthly Partners in Ministry! Remember that if you pledge $25 per month or more to this ministry, we will send you a FREE copy of Jim's book,
