Quick Fact

Although Chile is considered to be an 'economic success story' in Latin America, there are over 800,000 people in Santiago (15% of the population) who live on less than $130 per month. This, in a city where gasoline costs $7.00 per gallon!

Prayer Requests

1. Pray for God to enable us to do all we need to do ahead of our October 1 departure date! Packing, sorting, and preparing for an international move can get overwhelming.

2. NIKA requests prayers for God's guidance as she makes a decision on where to go for graduate school. She intends to become a chiropractor!

3. Join us in THANKING GOD that all of our children found summer jobs! Thank you, Holy Cross Summer Camp in North Miami! :)

4. We THANK GOD that Brent Friedrichs (former GLO missionary in Nigeria) has agreed to become the GLO business manager! He will be "learning the ropes" with Jim at the end of July.

5. We pray for our Chilean colleagues, as they continue to bring the Gospel in word and deed to those affected by the earthquake (in Iquique) and devastating fires (Valparaiso).

6. We THANK GOD for wonderful trips to California and New Hampshire in June! Truly, one HUGE joy of "support discovery" is reconnecting with old friends, and making new friends!

7. PRAISE GOD for a wonderful "new missionary orientation" in June with Sharon Whightsil (Kenya) and Sarah Burr (Paraguay). Pray for them as they begin their support discovery.

8. PRAY FOR ALL our GLO missionaries who are in the "Support Discovery" process: Tim & Beth Heiney (Guinea); George & Shary Frahm (Cambodia); and Dixon & Christiana Gbeanquoi (Tanzania).

Let freedom ring! We pray that you had a blessed 4th of July celebration with family and loved ones. As we celebrated our freedom as Americans, I can't help but think that "celebrating freedom" is what the Gospel is all about!
 True Freedom
Ministering among the poor in Santiago.

Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty we're free at last!  That rousing quote from Dr. Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech stirs the souls of people everywhere who appreciate their freedom. It was originally a line from a Negro spiritual: "Free at last, free at last, thank God I'm free at last" is how the song went. For an enslaved people, "freedom" is something to be cherished, treasured above love, money, or even life itself.

The irony of the American 4th of July celebration is that so many of those who celebrate freedom, are not truly free. Without Christ, we are (all of us) slaves to sin and the devil. True freedom is not something given by politicians, rulers, or overlords, but by God Himself. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, God offers us real freedom - the forgiveness of our sins and victory over death!

Freedom - true freedom - is not just an American thing. It is the "desire of the nations". Thanks to God and to your partnership, we are moving to Chile to let freedom ring - true freedom in Christ!

COUNTDOWN TO CHILE - 84 DAYS!!!

WITH THANKSGIVING to GOD and with huge gratitude in our hearts to YOU, we have begun our countdown to departure for Santiago! Our departure date has been set for October 1.

How did this happen? In June, we received gifts which covered all of our "outgoing expenses", so we now have enough to move and rent an apartment! That's great news!

The not-so-great news is that our first year of ministry is not yet funded. We currently have 4% of our first year of ministry funded. Our target is to have 60% funded by October 1. (To be deployed, we need to raise 100% of our 'outgoing' costs, and 60% of our 'ongoing' costs. Ongoing costs are what it takes to maintain our ministry in Santiago for one year.)

We are delighted to announce that we now have 12 monthly Partners in Ministry! Remember that if you pledge $25 per month or more to this ministry, we will send you a FREE copy of Jim's book, "Meeting Ananias".

This non-profit publication is a collection of 10 stories from our ministry in Venezuela. Former Lutheran Hour speaker Dale Meyer wrote the foreword!  Click here to make a pledge! We are praying for 40 monthly partners. Is God calling you to partner with us in this ministry?

We are trying hard to fill in our remaining dates before our planned deployment to Chile on October 1. If your small group or congregation is open to it, we would be happy to visit!  PLEASE NOTE that we are NOT asking to be included in your congregation's budget. As we share what God is doing, we know that those whom the Spirit moves, will partner with us in this ministry. If one of our "dates" is near you, we hope that you will stop by for a visit!

Will you consider inviting us for one of the OPEN DATES?  If so, contact Jim by email to make arrangements: Revtino@hotmail.com
