Mishloach Manot/Purim Baskets
Get your costumes ready because Purim is almost here!!! Can't wait for groggers and Hamantashin...Purim is only one month away!!!
This year JLIC will be selling mishloach manot so that you can ensure that you and your friends have an awesome Purim!!!
Mishloach Manot/ Purim Baskets are gifts of food or drink that are sent to friends, relatives, neighbors, teachers, business associates, and any other acquaintances on Purim day. The mitzvah of giving mishloach manot derives from the Book of Esther. It is meant to ensure that everyone has enough food for the Purim feast held later in the day, and to increase love and friendship among Jews as a counter to Haman's assertion that the Jewish people are characterized by strife and disunity.
To send a mashloach manot it will cost $1 per person, an additional $10 to send to anyone who sent to you, or $20 to send to everyone. The money will be donated to Leket Israel. Leket Israel works to alleviate the problem of nutritional insecurity among the growing numbers of Israel's poor. Each year, with the help of 40,000 volunteers, Leket Israel rescues over 700,000 meals and 21 million lbs of produce and perishable goods, and supplies over 1.25 million (7,500/school day) volunteer prepared sandwiches to underprivileged children. Food, that would have otherwise gone to waste, is redistributed to nearly 300 nonprofit partners caring for the needy. http://leket.org.il/english/
If you are interested in sending a basket please fill out this form . Rebecca Rubenstein will be collecting the money from now until the Wednesday before Purim, Feb 29th. If you have any questions please feel free to ask |
