Layton Boulevard West Neighbors E-Newsletter

 July 20111
Greetings!

Due to the 4th of July week, Summerfest, and all the great things going on in the neighborhood we decided to postpone our e-newsletter by one week.  So here it is, fully packed with everything exciting going on.  And believe me, there is a lot going on, just look at the list to the right.

To help you sort through everything here I have a few recommendations.  If you are a looking to buy a home, are a lover of architecture, or just like being nosy and looking at how other people live join us for our annual tour of homes.  You will get a chance to see LBWN's next Turnkey Renovation home.  We also have this month's featured home on Layton Boulevard, which will also be the site of our next workgroup meeting for the quality of life plan.  Come for the meeting and stay to see this beautiful home.

If you can't make that workgroup meeting, we have plenty more scheduled in the next month.  The Quality of Life planning process is well underway, but there is still time to get involved. Check out our list of upcoming meetings, let us know which ones you would like to attend, and get involved in creating a better neighborhood.

If you would like to buy a home, but need that job first, we have two work opportunities this month.  LBWN is taking applications for an AmeriCorps position this fall.  The Urban Ecology Center, soon to be coming to the neighborhood, is hiring as well.

If you are just looking to have some fun, we have our summer concert series next week (free food and music!).  We also have some radio spots about Burnham Park as heard on 88.9 RadioMilwaukee a few weeks back.  Listen to them and tell us what you think.  Better yet, go to our Facebook page and tell us what you love about Burnham Park (or Silver City and Layton Park).

Last month was our first photo banner for the top of the e-newsletter.  We got a positive response to the photo, but no one suggested a block to use for this month's banner.  So, I took the liberty of photographing a block and put it up there.  Tell me what block it is and you could win a prize.  Send me an email at daniel@lbwn.org to guess what block is shown up top or to let me know why your block should be the first thing people see on top of our e-newsletter.

Have a great July and enjoy this beautiful warm weather.  We deserve it!

Get involved in creating a great neighborhood
A big thank you to the more than 70 neighbors who joined us on June 8th to unveil the Neighborhood Vision and Strategic Topic Areas for the Neighborhood Quality of Life Plan.

Since that meeting we have been convening workgroups around each of the Strategic Topic Areas.  The Neighborhood Appearance & Appeal and Social Engagement workgroups have already met to discuss these areas of the plan.  We have also had a design visioning session for the Pierce Street corridor.

However, there is still time to get involved.  We have 4 more workgroup meetings and 3 more design visioning sessions coming up.  See below for the schedule.  If you would like to join us for any of these meetings please contact Dan at 414-383-9038 ex.2305 or daniel@lbwn.org.  For a description of each workgroup click here to see a complete listing.  To view our June plan update in English and Spanish click here.

EHLP

We all know how the foreclosure crisis has impacted our economy and our neighborhoods.  The federal government recently announced the Emergency Homeowners Loan Program (EHLP) for homeowners who are at least 90 days delinquent on their mortgage.  Using EHLP, individuals may be eligible for up to $50,000 to pay their delinquent mortgage payments.  The deadline to apply for EHLP is Friday, July 22.

There are several upcoming Foreclosure Prevention Workshops coordinated by Select Milwaukee.  At these workshops, homeowners can learn about the many resources available to them to avoid foreclosure, including EHLP.  Below, you will find the details for these workshops.  Please note which language each workshop will be conducted in.

With the July 22 EHLP Application deadline quickly approaching, NOW IS THE TIME TO SEEK HELP IN AVOIDING FORECLOSURE.
