 Seed Library News

Plans are in the works for a bus trip to Seed Savers Exchange in Decorah Iowa on a Saturday late May. If you have never been there, take a peek at their website, you will want to go for sure. Stay tuned for details to follow.

Heritage Farm

If you are still drying and preparing your Seed Library seeds from the summer and they are still sitting at home....it's not too late to turn them in. We've had an exciting return from many gardeners and are ramping up for the new growing season and will be stocking our seed catalog. Fingers crossed for a fantastic start to the season. Also, if you didn't get your seeds in the ground this year and still have them, don't fret. Plant them in 2015 as seeds are very viable for at least five years. If your perennials, like sage or catnip, didn't get large enough to have great flowers this year, they should do better this summer...so watch those herbs and bring us seeds when you can.

Snow on the ground tells us we can't plant yet, but seed catalogs showing up in the mail are making us eager to get in the dirt. What's a gardener to do? Start to plan this year's garden. Here are a few new gardening books that can help:

Companion Planting for the Kitchen Gardener: Tips, Advice, and Garden Plans for a Healthy Organic Garden, by Allison Greer

Jabbour Groundbreaking Food Gardens: 73 Plans That Will Change the Way You Grow Your Garden, by Niki Jabbour

Rodale's Basic Organic Gardening: A Beginner's Guide to Starting a Healthy Garden, by Deborah L. Martin

Overdrive Users

  • If you get a new library card and number and you have existing holds in your Overdrive account, please contact us. We need to merge your Overdrive account with your new library card so you will not lose your hold(s).

Library Card Required for Check-out and Logging on the Internet

  • Don't forget your card when you visit the library.
  • If you normally send someone in to pick up your materials for you, make sure they have your library card with them.

New Library Cards

  • La Crosse Public Library card holders will be asked to trade their alpha-numeric (A00) patron barcodes for a handsome all numeric library card set including a wallet card and a keychain card. Unfortunately, our older barcodes are not consistently recognized in the new system. We love how attached our long-time users are to those older cards, but we hope you'll understand our need to move you to a newer card.
