This week marks the beginning of the busy holiday season, and we want to express just how thankful we are for all of you. You might have read that we recently signed on our 1,000th patient in October, and we couldn't be more grateful for the support and trust you've shown us as your healthcare providers. We are more committed than ever to continuing our relationship-based and evidence-based practice, as we know it yields better health for you! Thank you for sharing our commitment to better healthcare in our community.

This month, we share thoughts on the blog about a more convenient way to prep for colonoscopy and current thinking about HRT therapy for treatment of menopause symptoms. And, nutritionist Jennifer Bain shares thoughts about a super-berry and a healthy recipe just in time for Thanksgiving.

With the holiday shopping season quickly approaching, we're excited to join our Mariemont merchant neighbors by participating in Small Business Saturday with an open house and specials. We hope you'll stop by and see us Saturday, Nov. 25 from 10 am - 2 pm.

As always, we appreciate your trust in us as your healthcare providers, and we wish you and your loved ones a very Happy Thanksgiving!

In good health,

Lisa Larkin, MD, and Associates

Hormone Therapy for Treatment of Menopause Symptoms May Be Safer Than Previously Reported

by Lisa Larkin, MD, FACP, NCMP, IF

In September of this year, The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) published results from the most recent study examining hormone therapy for women using data from the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI.) This latest study is important because it may impact the quality of life for the millions of women who seek treatment for menopause management, specifically hormone replacement therapy (HRT.) New Colonoscopy Prep System Offers Comfortable Alternative to Traditional Prep

No one likes to prep for colonoscopy. From forcing down the liquid to camping out in the bathroom, the prep can be a barrier to colon cancer screening. Of course, a bowel that is not adequately cleansed can result in a missed polyp or cancer, a longer procedure time, and a repeat colonoscopy at much shorter intervals than if adequate cleansing.

Cincinnati HyGIeaCare Center introduced the HyGIeaCare Prep System to Cincinnati in February 2017. HyGIeaCare has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to effectively clean the bowel using a gentle infusion of warm, gravity-flow filtered water.  (Read more...)

A New Twist on a Thanksgiving Classic: Cranberry Sauce

By Jennifer Bain, MEd, LDN, RDN

We all have that memory of the dreadful, pink, gelatinous, cranberry-like side dish on the dinner table that Uncle Bob just can't get enough of. But before you dismiss cranberry sauce all together, let's take a closer look at this magical berry. (Read more...)

Feeling Ill but Don’t Want to Leave your House? Or Can’t Get Away from Work? Schedule a Virtual Visit!

Working through the HIPAA-compliant American Well Telehealth platform – the same telemedicine platform used by the Cleveland Clinic – our providers can meet virtually with patients (when appropriate. Note that some conditions or acute needs may not be appropriate for virtual visits. Check with the office to be sure your needs can be served with a telemedicine visit.) Patients download the AmWell app and use their own personal device (laptop, desktop, phone or tablet) that has a camera.

Telemedicine visits are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, with only a few offered each day. Here’s what to do:
  1. Download the secure, HIPAA-compliant app by searching for AmWell in the iTunes or Android app stores.
  2. Call the office for our unique practice code (you’ll only need to do this the first time you use the app.)
  3. Then, schedule using the app or by calling the office (513.760.5511.)

* Each urgent visit is $60.
